Forums - Gaming - PS4 has the Superior Version of Battlefield 4

Erm...to me both versions look great, there's not much in it and we are still behind PC (but pretty close). And so I ask, what's the big deal? Reviewers won't care which one has an extra cloud in the background in certain scenes, nor will they care if there's a small texture difference. They'll care how it lookhoverall, and that's currently amazing.

When you're playing the game, you're never gonna notice these tiny differences, and why would you care anyway? You're gonna be playing the game on your shiny new console, which you'll have sunk over £400 in. These small differences are insignificant to the clear step up on offer overall.

As far as I'm concerned, the only people this affects are those die-hards who are set on proving one system is better or worse than another, so much so to potentially ruin the fun of a new game, and new console, launch. It's what causes massive threads full of huge quote trees of tiny, insignificant faults in order to try and one-up the supporter of another system. And that's fine, I enjoy a hearty debate probably more than the next person. But at the end of the day, both versions of the game look amazing. And I know I'm going to enjoy it, regardless of what platform I get it on. Why more people can't just think the same way is a mystery to me.

U are missing the point enturely. Vgcharzt is site for an enthusiast of gaming.

From what I've read, quite a few people have cited Ryse as the best looking Xbone or PS4 game yet shown.

I would be one of them.  I would say the best looking games so far has been Ryse, Killzone, and Forza 5.  Im not really all that impressed with BF4 honestly because it really doesnt look much different than BF3 honestly.  But it does look nice as well.

However in this case side by side XBO has a crisper image where the PS4 looks a little more fogged.  Not sure why though.  However wile driving i would say ps4.  So it looks like to me that they are nearly identical with minor differences.  Would would have guessed

Because the scaler in the XBox One sharpens like hell. And the contrast is set much steeper, too. Both lead to an apparent "better" picture. There is a price for that, though. The contrast in the PS4 is set to neutral. There are various "comparison vids" floating around, some are better, some are worse due to good or bad capturing methods. So it is still difficult to call a verdict (particularly on one multiplat game only).
In the end, I see that (as far as BF4 is concerned):

a) PS4 seems to have higher framerates at almost all times

b) PS4 has higher resolution. You can crank up the settings on your tv to get the same "sharpness feeling" as on the XBox One, without loosing the resolution advantage if you need that.

What does it mean for the future: Like it was speculated over and over again, the PS4 has a slight edge over the XBox One (due to the gpu advantage). How will that develop? Ask again in a year or so...

(Me? I've just installed Windows8.1 and the pc still runs so I'm ok.....)

They look really similar but the ps4 is $100 cheaper and has better frame rate

Choice is easy

From watching this video it looks just like this gen, as in you will not be able to tell the difference unless they are side by side.   Maybe because they are *cough nearly identical hardware cough* However in this case side by side XBO has a crisper image where the PS4 looks a little more fogged.  Not sure why though.  However while driving i would say ps4 but the ps4 is missing most of the lights.  So it looks like to me that they are nearly identical with minor differences.  Would would have guessed

No offense but I think the mods need to step in and edit the misleading title.  Maybe actually put the video up as well and rename it Battlfield 4 XBO and PS4 comparison

lol then youre doing graphics the right way......the PC way :P

But yeah games will only get better as time goes on as these are early gen games. But you know, got to feed that console war somehow.  Might as well feed it with pixels and let the fire burn haha

Not really sure of what your point is.  It may have had a higher frame rate but it still didnt look better and was mostly similar to the naked eye, and in some cases better for XBO while others better for PS4.  14fps difference isnt really something to brag about when they look identical next to each other.   Now if there was frame rate issues for one and not the other then there would be a problem.

So PS4 version has a higher resolution and better frame rate? Did that happen much last gen?

I can't think of any examples. When it did win a comparison, it was usually by the thinnest of margins.

14 FPS is a difference, have you ever played a game at 60fps? There is a clear difference between 60fps and 46fps, in fact very very noticeable. The same case for 50fps and 36fps. That's a 38% difference in smoothness we're talking about. Don't give me shit about naked eye not being able to percieve past 30fps, a person who has gamed mostly at 60fps all their life like me is able to tell even 3-4 fps drop in game. PS4 can achieve 50fps, why not xboxone?

That's not very indicative of nearly identical hardwares.
