Because the scaler in the XBox One sharpens like hell. And the contrast is set much steeper, too. Both lead to an apparent "better" picture. There is a price for that, though. The contrast in the PS4 is set to neutral. There are various "comparison vids" floating around, some are better, some are worse due to good or bad capturing methods. So it is still difficult to call a verdict (particularly on one multiplat game only).
In the end, I see that (as far as BF4 is concerned):
a) PS4 seems to have higher framerates at almost all times
b) PS4 has higher resolution. You can crank up the settings on your tv to get the same "sharpness feeling" as on the XBox One, without loosing the resolution advantage if you need that.
What does it mean for the future: Like it was speculated over and over again, the PS4 has a slight edge over the XBox One (due to the gpu advantage). How will that develop? Ask again in a year or so...
(Me? I've just installed Windows8.1 and the pc still runs so I'm ok.....)
