I don't really care much about graphics, as long as they are decent looking and don't hinder my gameplay experience.

I agree with you but i don't think the whole thing about pixels is about how good a game is but rather who is selling the best hardware for next gen game. Microsoft and Sony are asking us to spend 600-800$ this year on new hardware + games, and to run those games hardcore gamer do spend a lot of money on home theater. Since all we hear from them is bs PR, photoshopped images or gameplay coming from a high end PC, people wants to know which console is more capable to endure a 6-8 years lifespan, bring the best graphics out of a third party mutliplatform game.

I think you've failed to answer my question: Is a discussion about a console's graphics irrelevant to this site, the topic of console sales or the gaming industry in general? |
Maybe ask me instead of adding all the condesention and derailment in and ill be happy to answer anything you want :D
Is it irrelevant? No, nor did i say it was. I clearly never said it was actually. I asked what the point was. There is a difference between the two. A big difference actually.
I also know that im not the only one who finds these pixel threads to be a bit abnoxious and annoying as people, believe it or not do agree with me. Maybe not 100% but there is some who do. Think of this as a safe haven where people can say how they dont care rather than argue about it, and idk maybe have a discussion about why they dont care.
I will however repeat myself for you and once again say that "I, JayWood2010 never said to stop these threads or discussions"
Now maybe start being a little more calm about things instead of pointing accusations on people and they, or in this case I will answer things you have to ask. But really at least attempt to stay on topic for now on. Now i assume since you arent actually going to talk about the topic we are done here.

If it's a relevant topic then it's not pointless to discuss it on this site. Therefore, there is a point in discussing the topic on this site.

Can you repeat that one more time? I feel like you just said this. Maybe re-read what I said and then play that in your head for a moment.
Now akvod, what did i say before "I JayWood2010 never said to stop......" What is the rest of that sentence akvod?

They're important to me but I wouldn't waste time arguing about them. Whether John care's or not has shit to do with me.

remember when some people claimed the games would show us the gap between the X1 and ps4 would be minimal and that the games would run the same, welp now we know that's not the case. that's why you see so many pixel related threads.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
I am liking this topic, we need more drama though.
To add to the discussion... Why shouldn't we talk about pixels? I like them and I prefer my game with lots of them. The fact that one console won't be able to produce more pixels than the other is a really serious thing for me.
I can almost feel the difference in resolution, I have a big HD TV for playing games at the best resolution, and I want that from my games.
"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"
For certain games resolution does enhance and directly affect the gameplay.
Being able to spot someone from a greater distance makes a difference in FPS games. The extra resolution in racing games gives you a much better feel for the upcoming corners at speed, or the traffic in arcade racing games. In RTS and building games you can get a bigger overview of the action.
Yes gameplay comes first, but extra resolution gives you more of an edge in fast arcade racers then 60fps. Simply cranking up the detail in 720p can also make the game too cluttered/busy/noisy to get a good grasp of the 3D world. The extra resolution restores the balance. Same as you would not do well playing current gen games in 320x200, which was a perfectly fine resolution for Doom, Half-life and Descent back in the day.
Crank up the resolution and maybe one day we can discard with over sized glowing items and enemy markers to make them visible enough in the pixel clutter. (That also depends on better lighting and AA ofcourse so not everything blends together)
Anyway sure, arguing over a 2D platformer in 720/900/1080p is pretty pointless.
