Again, as I stated: The Wii hasn't sold anymore software than the 360 did in the same January-April timeframe if you just counted LTDs upto this point. The 360 sold around 4.7m units last year versus the Wiis 4.5m (not including Wii Sports). This is kind of suprising, since the Wii outsold the X360 by around 1 million units by this time. So.......That means the Wii has about a 5:3 ratio in terms of hardware, but only a 1:1 ratio in terms of software.

Be careful. Your angering the mob. Thei'll say your trolling and get you banned or something. XD

Seriously, This is funny, and one of the reasons I say what I say about me being curious about the Wii. The hardware is moving amazing numbers... The software is not, and what is moving is all nintendo and 2 3rd party games. Basically a total of 5 games on the Wii are selling decently.

He removed japanese and European figures from his analysis, giving the 360 an unfair advantage

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Well, it looks like ioi will be doing some numbers at some point soon with Europe, and I'll gladly make some charts for them. Do we want a Japanese s/w chart to show Nintendomination or something else?

No, show the WW software and hardware sales as a whole, I think you'll see that the Wii is doing quite well when the rest of the world is taken into account, not just the one territory that 360 is doing decently in

I mean as of the end of march nintendo had sold almost 29 million units of software WW compared to 5.84 million units of hardware, so almost an attach rate of 5 games per console

Nope WW Wii has a 5 game attach rate (according to Nintendo financials), the thing is Wii is successful in other territories outside NA, unlike the 360, so limiting the argument to only NA is disingenuous

I did NOT remove Europe and/or Japan. I just merely did NA as the title stated. It's the only interesting one out of it and Japan. We can't do w/w, because there's no actual data for Europe that we can track on a weekly or monthly basis. If we did, then I'd gladly do it. I'm not trying to be biased toward the X360, but the fact is that Japan is rather unintresting since there's really no interesting things right now (until Holiday, or even 6/14 when NG and TB come out for PS3/360 respectively). I'd love to see how the Wii has a 5 game attach ratio. Where are Nintendo's financials to prove that? Since Nov 2006 the Wii has sold: 2,292,845 Hardware Units in Japan 5,387,123 Software Units in Japan 2.35 Attach Ratio 2,635,648 Hardware Units in the USA 10,200,000 Software Units in the USA (Estimated, including pack-in title Wii Sports) 3.87 Attach Ratio The J-charts are correct, as they are Famitsu and MC data and are very accurate. The Nintendo charts should be pretty close to actuals within 100k games. I don't see the 5.0 Attach ratio your talking about? I am sure Europe has good ratios, possibly even 3.0 or 3.2 (is Wii Sports a pack-in title there as well?) So where exactly are these extra 17m units of software? Is that including VC downloads? Im not finding an answer, so it'd be appreciated if you could give one.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

The 29M sold software figure is indeed mentioned by Nintendo, however these are the numbers sold by Nintendo, not the number of sales to consumers. Btw, the exact breakdown is 14.49M to the Americas, 8.23M to others and 6.12M to Japan.

The Nintendo financial numbers can't be used for tie-in 'cause the shipped software is a lot higher than sold software, while the shipped hardware is very close to the sold hardware.

Thanks for sharing the charts, very interesting.  I think, even though the inclusion of Wii Sports as a pack-in obviously has a large effect on software sales, we shouldn't consider it comparatively due to it being a no-choice purchase for anyone who buys a Wii.

Taking that approach, Wii's software sales are a little disappointing compared with X360.  Obviously, competition compared to no competition has a lot to do with this, but also Wii I would say needs some big games pretty soon to keep momentum going.  There's only so long people will play Wii Sports, Wii Play, WarioWare and Zelda before they want something else.  Fortunately for Wii owners, I think those games are in the pipeline or just released (Super Paper Mario).

Another thing that is underscored by the data is, as we all know, PS3 has a long way to go and not just in hardware sales.

Right in the report thaty handed out last month which detailed the sales up til the end of march

Actually in the reference to the 29 million Wii games they comment that its purchased by consumers not stores, they say that the 29 million consoles were purchased along with the 5.84 million Wii consoles

In addition, in less than five months since introduction, the company sold 5.84 million of its new Wii(TM) home video game systems globally, virtually every one snapped up immediately by consumers, along with nearly 29 million Wii games.

The report also contained software sales, and Nintendo have sold 28.84 million Wii games for an attach rate of 4.9 games sold per console. 124 million DS games were sold for the year bringing the total to 184 million sold since launch, giving the DS a 4.6 game attach rate. Finally, 38.53 million GBA games and 16.8 million GameCube games were sold for the year, bringing their life to date totals to 366 million and 206 million games sold respectively. It should be noted the report specifically states that these software sales do not include games bundled with hardware.

Nothing's cheaper than something free.

F1 vs FOTA, when too much power is in couple peoples hands.

...So 29m in sales but NOT to consumers as you quoted? Very interesting.
