Forums - Nintendo - The Wii can be a great, cheap, console for core gamers.

How in the seven circles of hell can 100 million units sold be biased?

Anyway, I had a Wii since launch and never regretted it. Not only did I get to play the usual Nintendo big hitters and over looked games like Sin & Punishment, Punch Out, The Last Story, No More Heroes, Little King's Story, the Wii was the first time since my Master System than my parents took an interest in playing videogames with me. The Wii deserves more credit--not scorn--for what it did for first-time, lapsed and family gamers. It was, as Wii proved, an under-served market, and an area vital to the growth of the home console industry.

I think they used the same low res Morrigan model for Capcom vs. SNK 2 that was in the original Darkstalkers.  Capcom vs. SNK 2 came out in 2001 and Darkstalkers back in 1994.

Wholy crap, that's just laziness! xD

Little King's Story

Muramasa

Dawn of Discovery

A Boy and his Blob

Lost Winds

Rune Factory

De Blob

Excellent taste.  Particularly Dawn of Discovery which I hardly ever see get mentioned.  It was this kind of stuff that I was expecting to see included in Wright's first list, too.  Although you both seem to have listed Fragile Dreams.  I wanted to like that game, but it was absolutely atrocious =/

While I disagree that we should catalogue "games" within "core gamer", let me show ya!

Have you played Disaster day of crisis? Is it good? I've wanted to try it out since Xenoblade.

Sonic Colours is sorely missing from lists so far. IMO it's still the best post-SEGA hardware Sonic title.

Generations was great too, but for some reason the engine had odd control glitches left over from Unleashed, which Colours had completely eradicated.

Mad World was a game I never got on with. But I have to say Metallicube's list is full of games any self respecting gamer should try! Though a few of them now have superior versions on other formats, Muramasa's definitive version is definitely the Vita port and House of the Dead Overkill is nicer on PS3. IMO a $50 Wii is worth cost of entry just for Xenoblade Chronicles.

A Boy and his Blob is amazing! As is De Blob, had hours of fun with that one!

I do think Wii U is becoming a viable option now though and personally would say if cost of entry isn't an issue, Wii U is the one to go for due to future exclusives it'll have and the HDMI output that Wii didn't have.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I agree, the Wii has a great lineup of games that people overlook because they are on the Wii, It's a shame really I think it's a nice console. Not that it was my favourite console of the the generation, but nonetheless it still had some of the best games of the generation for me

I loved it. It is, however, a very bad game (from a technical perspective; on-rail shooter, fps drops to 15 sometimes and muddy textures), and it ripped Metal Gear Solid straigth. No, seriously, it did. I don't want to spoil you in anything, but it's just plain shameless xD But I strongly suggest it. I had tons of fun with it: it has a very long story mode (I think over 15 hours), tons of things to do despite being pretty linear game, tons of exploration and tons of extras (As in costumes for the player, a gallery-shooting mode, more difficulties and things like that. Pretty solid extras that gave the game a lot of replay value). I don't know why that game got so much hate - other than the technical department - because the game is just plain fun. Cliché and cheesy story, but it was awesome. You can't go wrong with this one, especially if you like survival games (which are a rarity).

I was checking it now. Never heard of Dawn of Discovery (hence why I didn't included it). Fragile Dreams is the kind of "love or hate it" game, so don't feel bad; I can understand the controls to be so frustrating to the point of ragequitting.

It's just... it had so much potential.  I loved the setting and atmosphere in the game; and it was bloody gorgeous in places, but man - the controls just made it unplayable for me.  Real shame.

Somehow I can't get on rails and exploration to fit. :D

I might check it out if I find a copy of it. I doubt I will, but hey, I found a store with 5 copies of Xenoblade, so you never know.

Sorry, my fault. The combat is an on-rail shooter; however, the rest of the game is a...mmm...walking-running-saving survivors-platformer survival simulator.
