Nope. On PSN it's free. Cross-chat is not the same thing as normal online chatting. ;)

read what i said again.  I was referring to online play....

No, you wrote that Cross game chat is a feature that you use while you play online while paying. On PSN and Xbox Live in the current gen theres normal chat that is a multiplayer additive to a game. On PSN you dont have to play for cross-chat which, (much like Xbox Live Gold does) will allow you to contact your friends whom are gaming while they mute their in-game chat. Two different things. PSN+ enables multiplayer chat (with the multiplayer fee), but cross-chat is enabled on free PSN in the next gen and both are dead even at eight users. ;)

Xbox LIVE has always support up to 8 participants in cross-game/party chat.

You + 7 Friends.

The implication from Microsoft is that they're looking into expanding it beyond 8 people.

"At launch, up to eight people will be able to join a Party Chat at a time on Xbox One..."

I would expect as much since people are paying for it. I truly hope so.
