Is there any reason Nintendo is unable to release Wii games on the Virtual Console? Would emulation be possible?

(I'm aware you can buy a physical copy of Wii games and run them in Wii mode, but this would be such a better solution)

It would be a colossal waste of money to make VC versions of a game for a system it is backwards compatible with.

Digital copies of hard to find games (Metroid Prime Triology I was thinking of specifically) would surely make the cost of porting it worthwhile.

For games like that, they're probably better off making an HD remake for Wii U (and keeping up their practice of making it downloadable so you don't have to get a physical copy).  Otherwise, it's just a waste of their money.

No confirmed reason, tons speculation.

- Nintendo is too cheap to even try putting more recent games digitally due to cost of conversion along with adapting it to work with the Gamepad and stuff.

- Nintendo is so greedy, they think they would get more money not putting games from their last two generations as digital releases but instead 'remake/port' them and sell at a higher price.

- Nintendo sucks at the internet and anticipating the desires of its gamers.

It can go on from there but those are the 3 most prevailing thoughts.

Well... if you want to rebuy all the games from the current gen... you should buy a Sony console since they love to make people rebuy all their games on their next gen systems without giving any options...

Least you can go to craigslist/ebay/amazon/gamestop and buy wii games at cheaper rates than what Nintendo would probably give u anyway

I think it's important to point out he's saying VC.  You know what goes on the VC, right?  It has nothing to do with being too cheap.  Sony doesn't even do this.  It's one thing to release the games digitally (like they have with the 3DS and Wii U) but a totally different thing to give it an emulated version.  From what I heard, Sony is going to go with cloud streaming for PS3 games on the PS4.  Though I still need to do more research.

First: not a system seller in any way. Nobody will buy a system because the ability to play the games of the iteration before. Not for now at least.

Second: the wii mode is a way to prevent the use of the exploit of wii to acess the new console architeture, so they split it out to prevent this kind of use. Put the game on the e shop would involve a major rework on the system, something nintendo is not willing to do.

Would be cool, i know, but bussiness wise would a be a poor move. Nintendo need to focus on make games unique and only avaible on wiiu, you know? Something that make the people really go out and buy the console. When most of then get it(10 mil), so nintendo should worry abouit ho didnt have the wii(like me). Wait n64, gba and anothers game consoles come over, then expect the launch of the wii games.
