Forums - Movies & TV - Recommend Me Anime Shows with Deep Stories

Somebody recommended two anime's this year that I just loved.  One being Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and the other is AnoHana.  I also watched Persona 4's (God damnit atlus announce P5 -_-) anime which wasn't as good as the game but still enjoyed :D

Anyways if you all can think of any other anime with deep stories then i'd def be up for watching some.

I would certainly call Paranoia Agent's story deep...

Anyways, Serial Experiments: Lain, Haibane Renmei, Death Note.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Mainly, Death Note is a detective show.  Basically, a "Death Note" is a book carried by beings known as Shinigami (translates to Death God I think).  If a person's names is written in the Death Note, they die.  One of the Shinigami leaves his death note on Earth (mainly to see what would happen).  The Death Note is found by a boy named Light Yagami, who begins using it to eliminate anyone who he deems as evil. Obviously, the sudden rash of inexplicable deaths is a cause for concern in Japan.

From there, the show follows the detective L as he tries to discern the identity of "Kira" (the media nickname for the mysterious person causing the deaths) and Light as he tries to keep himself from being discovered while continuing with his agenda.  Like I said, it's mainly a detective thriller type show, but there are some philosophical underpinnings to it.
