Forums - Microsoft - Crytek Admits Microsoft Had To Rewrite Xbox One Code To Run Software

Tagged games:

Title kind of misleading. Of course MS has to change the code base from the 360 to the X1. Architecturally they are very different including the whole 3 prong Hyper V OS.

Also I remember another interview by Crytek stating that when they wanted to move to a different direction with Kinect, MS gave them the OK. It was not MS decision but instead Crytek. Either way, I would guess this is the problem with any launch game. Hardware finished close to launch, software still being tweaked and driver changes pretty much every day.

"When we came into E3, we didn’t have a lot of our combat systems ready," ... "Admittedly we were focused more on the visual tech and the quality of what we were trying to deliver overall, and unfortunately there were certain things that people looked at, and especially when you haven’t really had a hands-on with it, you don’t really get the same sort of experience that we envisioned."

"We were wanting to show more depth of where the combat’s at, and more of how the combat system works. I think the multiplayer experience does a pretty good job of that."

"I don’t want to create a sob story here, but when you’re dealing with next-gen hardware -- I mean, seven years is an extended period, the technology has evolved a lot from the Xbox 360,"

"Microsoft has had to rewrite a lot of their code for the Xbox itself to be able to run this sort of software. So we’re still working on that, and it’s a mutual collaboration: we’re helping them try to decipher those pipelines."

"The trouble is that sometimes [showing it early] can take away from what we can potentially do in the game, and showing hands-on, this is what the people see. I don’t think we showed it in the best possible way."

I just read the article.  If anyone is interested in reading some of the most biased, baseless and outright stupid opinion then read the link.  I have to applaud you ethomaz on creating a thread on a junk article.  Pretty much a new low for you.

Although Crytek originally showed this as a Kinect game, they actually had the game being developed with 3 control methods in mind. Im guessing they just showed it as a Kinect title around the Kinect launch to promote Kinect.

But Wow Crytek. With Ryse your really showing just how talented you are in the visual field. It mindblowing to think this is your first attempt at Xbox One. And Just shows how amazing you are when you work solely on one platform. Best launch visuals by some way. Those animations are just awesome.

It's the original header from the site the story came from.  That's how you get hits, by flame baiting headers.  It works and works well, and considering these are businesses it makes sense why they use them.

If you want profile  points on gamrconnect, it works well here too.

Your comment still makes no sense! How have MS saved Crytek's ass beyond what they have to do as the manufacturer of the X1?? Crytek are graphical whores and they have bought PC graphics cards to their knees so i don't think they would be in any way incompetent!

?? Crytek made a game designed for the 360 and couldn't get it running on the One in time for E3.. MS stepped in and helped them getting it running on the One for E3.. I would call that Ass saving cause it was one of the big games of E3.. Crytek would look like donkeys if their exclusive One game couldn't actually be running on the One.. it's not MS job to get every game running on the One, it's not like they give other developers their programmers.. it's the developers job to get the game running on the One..

That's the thing tho it wasn't running on X1 at E3. It was running on PC like most of the stuff at E3. If you read the article you will see it mentioned. It's MS job to give the drivers and development libraries to Crytek. If they were behind then its their job to give them assistance. The developer quiet clearly states that they and MS are trying to solve the pipelines puzzle. I think MS needed it to be shown more than Crytek. Crytek could have easily shown a trailer! I highly doubt anyone doubts Cryteks pedigree when it comes to graphics!
It's MS job to provide the development tools/libraries and drivers. Especially upto date ones!

I would call that collaboration, not MS saving Crytek's ass. Without Crytek's help, MS' X1 drivers and dev environment wouldn't be as mature as it currently is.

Considering MS is the publisher, everything they did is exactly what you expect from a publisher and platform holder.
