Forums - Sony - So little advertising and hype for GT6.

Just saying a bigger install base leads to more sales is not true, there are many other factors such as advertising and hype, both of which would be way more of GT6 was on the PS4.  Using that logic for bigger market = bigger sales then that means that the PS2's top selling games would have destroyed the PS3's since it has double the install base.  With the exception of GTA SA and Vice City the top software sales are pretty much identical.  When the holiday season comes and people are on the fence about getting a X1 or PS4 and they see X1 with Halo 5 and no big system seller with the PS4 the average person will pick up a X1.  The PS4 needs a big system seller to compete and it doesn't have to be an FPS to be competative.

So lets see... If you sell a game to 5 million people, how many can you get?

If you sell a game to 80 million people, won't that result in a potential for higher sales?

It isn't complex math. The bigger your user base, the higher your sales potential. That's all it is. I don't understand what you want to imply, but if things were as simple as you want them to be, then every single game would be released on the next gen.

Oh but here's a news flash for you. Game producers are smart, and instead of doing what you want them to do, they're doing the sensible thing: release stuff on X360 and PS3 because there are more users. Think about it. Are you smarter than they are? Then maybe you should own a major game studio and show all the others how wrong they are.

Pfft. Please don't argue anymore it's useless.

Still think it was a mistake to put this on PS3, Evolutio Studio's game should have been on PS3 and GT on PS4.

It's not a mistake. The PS3 has tens of millions of users, and a franchise like Gran Turismo is too big to become a launch title. It'll sell faster than PS4s will move off the shelves. This is the same reason why Rockstar chose to put GTA5 on the current gen. Massive franchises (potential 10 million and above sellers) can't be launch titles.

Well it would not have been a launch game, being on the PS4 it would have taken longer to make and would be coming out next year, which is perfect since Halo 5 is coming out next year and the only franshise that Sony has that can compete with Halo is GT.

Even if it were to come out next year, the install base wouldn't be big enough. You can't compare the existing PS3 users with PS4 users after a year. Only a small percentage would have adopted the new console by then.

Moreover, if Sony delays GT6, it would cost them millions of dollars in additional development costs for a new console, especially since Yamauchi is so obsessed with maximizing his games for the hardware.

A racing game doesn't compete with a shooter. Just because they're both big franchises doesn't mean that they're in competition.

You USE GT to make the install base higher.  Over time as more people buy the system they can still buy GT6.  They will move faster if the biggest Sony franchise is on PS4 instead of 3.

This is wishful thinking and you'll potentially ruin GT's potential. If there are only a few million PS4s in circulation after a couple of years, the game is already old. Do you really think that people buy consoles based on old games? And in that stint, the price of the game would go down to $30, and it will never reach the GT sales standard.

What you need to understand is that the PS4 isn't going to sell 20 million on its first year and not every owner will buy GT. If you sell it to a higher install base, your chances of sales are much higher.

Argue?  I thought this was a discussion...if your gonna take it personal and think I'm arguing then I'll stop.

I'm a bit disappointed that GT6 isn't coming out on PS4, but at the same time GT6 its been in development for a while so I doubt the PS4 design was anywhere near mature enough to develop the game on. If PD are smart though they would have modelled the cars to PS4-level fidelity and then scaled it back down for the PS3, so that a potential PS4 version would just need a tweaked and recompiled engine.

Wikipedia says that GT5 cost $80 million to make and took 5 years, but sales of GT5 Prologue and GT5 are over 15 million combined (shipped), so assuming an average take of ~$25 a sale PD probably took home around $375 million revenue. Given GT6 has only taken 3 years to develop and carried over a lot of content from GT5 I'd guess GT6 would cost in the order of $40-50 million to make, which means profits alone from GT5 would easily have covered the cost of GT6 development. Therefore even if it does sell markedly less (which I think it will), I still think it'll be profitable for PD and Sony, and a good demonstration of Sony's commitment to its consoles even when they are superseded.

GT3 came out a year into PS2 and sold the most in the series.  Even without bundling it would've been a huge success.
Care to explain that?  How about Resistance:FoM?  It was a fairly mediocre shooter in my mind yet it sold 4m after being a launch title.

Its going to sell alot less than GT5 did. They look to much the same.

???? And what racing game isn't?

@Bugrimmar

So what will you say when GT6 will have a smaller launch numbers than GT5? PS3 probably had half the install base back then (didn't check the number so it may be more or less wrong). The logic you are forcing that install base means everything will get destroyed, right? I would ban myself out of shame if that would have happened to me and I would have been proven so wrong.
Plus on a sidenote, didn't GT3 release quite early during the PS2's lifecycle, and remind me, but didn't it sell quite good? Like 15 million copies according to vgc and highest ever in the franchise?

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

there is gt advertisement. if the gt academy on tv, advertisement on cars in motorsport or some ads beside the race tracks. the "normal" ads in commercial breaks will happen closer to launch. it's still more than a month until the game releases! not sure when you normally see ads for games on tv but i see the first maybe one week before launch with cod as exception. that is sometimes already half an year before release in a tv ad if there is a huge event like the champions league final.

if we talk about hype, many people in gaming forums are obviously more hyped for the next gen right now but if we look at "normal" gamers who buy a next gen console in maybe 3 years, they could still all buy gt6 if they bought 5. well, not all of them but many.

I think it's weird they don't port it to PS4 atleast 1080p @60 or even 120Hz for TV's that support it. But they did the same thing with GT4 except that launched before PS3 by some months.

Especially since launch PS4's aren't backwards compatible like Launch PS3's were. I'd think this might help.
Edit: I was wrong about timing.

Still think they should put it on. It would helpful for people that have like an x360 but are going to get a ps4, etc.

There aren't any tv's yet that support 120fps, HDMI 1.4 doesn't allow it.
GT6 will be 1440x1080 at 60fps, better then a lot of next-gen launch titles...

They will update the engine for ps4 for GT7 in due time. With GT6 they have used their years of experience of working with the ps3 to get every last scrap out of it. It will be the biggest GT yet in game size. Trying to convert all that to ps4 in a year, they would probabbly have had to drop a lot of content and features, and delay or release an unfinished version. GT6 won't even be feature complete on ps3 in December.

An install base of 80 million against maybe a couple million by the end of the year says enough anyway. With all that extra cash they can spend more resources on making GT7 great.

@op It's still 2 months away, no sense advertising it to the masses this early. A couple weeks for release makes more sense.
