People that use 3DS in public would be considered cool compared to people that walk around with something like that. Oh wait this is for in house only.... I see no market.

Multitasking or not is not the question here. (And there are enough people still without smartphones. Me being one of them.) Displaying console games on a smaller screen is what it's about. (Not a must-have, but sometimes useful feature.) And if somebody who bashed the WiiU pad says that this is great, then he's a hypocrite, especially since the WiiU pad works more seamlessly as it ever could on a smartphone. |
He's right, there is a clear difference. One strategy is forcing you to buy a screen with your console that only streams games within range of the console, and is useless everywhere (and for anything) else. The other strategy lets you use any existing multitasking device you own and stream the games anywhere you like. You don't have to be a hypocrite to not like the first idea and like the second.
Besides, the Off-TV Play isn't supposed to be the focus of the Wii U. If it was it would get a lot more bashing for just being a much more limited version of Remote Play. The whole point of the GamePad is asymmetric gaming.

Everybody I know who plays 3DS or Vita plays it in their homes rather than on the road except one person and she does both.

True, so there might be a market. However, I know a few friends that play on home consoles but would never consider a hand held. So console gamers and hand held gamers don't overlap. These friends of mine would never consider playing their home consoles on a smaller screen instead of a large TV. I'm sure there are others that would approach it in a different light (ones with families, etc) that see a use for it.
