SFIV and MK9 are how you should revamp a game for modern gamers. What Killer Instinct on Xbone has done is pretty much make a new IP due to huge changes.

Im an old hat at KI. Id like to know what your refferring to? The changes Ive read about are needed changes, changes that make it better not worse.

"Killer Instinct is looking to be a pretty promising fighter. It’s easy and quick to get into, but looks like it’ll have quite a bit of depth. And of course, the system of huge combos and combo breakers remains as intense and rewarding as ever."

"A week ago today I was able to get my hands on Killer Instinct for the first time. I have always been a fan of the series and one could say that this is my favorite fighting series of all time (next to Tekken and Def Jam). I was a bit skeptical about the new direction they were going with the series, but after playing the game I left impressed."

"Check out my first reactions and attempt at playing Killer Instinct with the Mad Catz Killer Instinct Arcade FightStick."

Is anyone getting the Ultimate edition?

I probably will get the Ultimate edition.  This is the genre I love so I pretty much purchase every fighting game whether its on the PS3, Wii or 360.  Give me the full game, I do no need to experiment with with the beta character paid model MS is trying to do.

Microsoft were just first. Capcom are also doing it for all their new fighters and the new MK is too. Thank Android and Piracy for this. :)

Its an interesting concept and it has the ability to get more sales without someone commiting to spending 60 bones for the full game.  If Capcom, Namco, and other developers can tier pieces of the content like this, it might work.  Say you only play 2 characters and you want the practice and arcade mode.  If it cost 10 bucks, I can see people going for that.

Another quote from your link, "I was pretty young when Killer Instinct was out, so my memory regarding the original is pretty fuzzy."   Wow, what a fan, cannot even remember it well.

Killer Instinct is just using the name to launch a new IP.  The characters aren't the same characters fans of the series played, they are brand new characters using the old characters names, they don't look anything like what they should.  So a fan of the old characters have nothing to connect them to this game.   That is why SFIV and MK9 are so loved by the fans of each, they updated the gameplay, visuals but kept the characters who they are.  SFIII tried abandoning all the loved characters except Ryu/Ken and later Chun-li, SFIII series poor sales killed SF for 10 years.

New Killer Instinct also removed blood, ultimate combos, danger moves and humiliations.  These are all a huge part of Killer Instinct identity, but they all removed just like the original characters.

There is nothing left of original Killer Instinct except yelling Ultra and Combo breaker, is like if Mortal Kombat removed Fatalities, gore and had all new characters with old ones names, and the only thing it did was say Fatality.  Why call it Mortal Kombat anymore.

Please stop pretending to be an old KI fan, or you wouldn't need any of this explained.

Ultimate combos are coming. Danger moves are coming and theres talk of Humiliations to. We are getting story mode in February with added combos.

Looks awesome. Reminds me a ton of the SNES KI I played the shit out of. Never played the N64 KI much.

Don't really care for fighting games in general. I had the chance to play the game at an Xbox One tour van thing, and it was fun for what it was though.

I think one of the major barriers for me is the fact that it is a digital only game. I can not justify dropping $40 or $60 for the pin edition for a game that doesn't even come with a disc.

Will pass for now ... probably will be a physical release down the road with everything and all DLC on it just like Walking Dead.

Link or you're posting bollocks, because everytime Double Helix are asked for months they say no plans for them.

Im looking for the interview. But theres tons on Youtube. I'll find it if it kills me.

i will get the game and i know over 30 of my friends who are getting the game as well, plus this is a true killer instinct game and looks to keep the fire burning from what i can tell, i dont understand how ppl can say it isnt that. all i can think of why ppl are just bashing on the game, is simply because its a xbox one game and m$, simple as that.
of course this is just my opinion

True Killer Instinct fans will get this game Day OneTM . This game is about COMBOS. COMBOS and COMBOS.

It had the most fluid and complex combo system ever when it debuted in 1994. The LOOKS are not that important. And finishers, ultimates and humilliations? KI was not known by those features. It was always combos, combos plus combos, which look great on this iteration.
