good episode.
i agree with them,. i don't see any real differentiators between the systems. kinect just doesn't do anything to justify the extra $100 when next to no games to play with it. unbundled at E3 seems likely.
I watched this the other day and even though I am a huge fan of Microsoft and Xbox I agree with a lot of what they said. I don't think they should have taken out Kinect because I believe if you have a vision for your product you should stick to it but they should not have made you pay for something that pretty much came up flat last gen. If you want people to pay for something you show them why its worth paying for and they have not done it with Kinect. They should have taken the hit and sold the system with Kinect for $400 or at least gave you a game and another controller for $500.
The #1 thing people don't like about Xbox One is that they are paying for Kinect and they have no interest in it. As for the media I see that as just extra stuff the console does and not something that I am really paying extra for. Xbox One is still my system of choice because I believe Microsoft will show this gen that the system is truly the most innovative we have ever seen. Now bring back the damn Family Sharing!
What interested me most was the proposal to have cable companies subsidise the X1. If they manage this it will make things really inyeresting saleswise.

That was depressing. So the recommended strategy for the X1 is sell it cheap as a cable box? I wonder if the X1 will stay on this site if that happens. I mean they don't let mobile phones count as handhelds.
I would prefer it if they dropped Kinect and focused on games. They could do really well if they just undercut Sony again. And they can sell Kinect pretty well anyway with the games that actually benefit from it; it did fine this gen.

Interesting discussion.
Will be interesting to see what the general consumer feels about Xbox One. I think its pretty short sighted to say that Microsoft should make a games console only. They obviosuly arent going down that road, they are on a different path to Sony.
Patchers normally wrong a WHOLE lot. So Microsoft should feel pleased with this discussion.

i wouldn't doubt MS tried. pachter, at least, has been talking this point for a least a year or two now.
...but what do the cable companies get out of it? i mean, the cable company still has to provide a cable box with HDMI out to be fed into the xbone. xbone doesn't outright replace a cable box. it may give the cable company a slightly better interface but companies like comcast already have premium interfaces that they charge a premium for. then there are the extra services like movie rentals that cable companies provide that MS would then be challenging them for.
i just don't get the pitch. MS walks into the cable companies office and says you should sell xbones because "....". unless the "...." is "here is a large sum of money." i don't know know what MS brings to the table. ..and if it's money why even bother,.. MS could just sell xbone at a loss.

My initial impression of Ryse was vastly superior to that of late. The concept is great, but the execution will determine its success. I have a feeling it will come up short of expectations and be a typical 7.5ish type game.
