i wouldn't doubt MS tried. pachter, at least, has been talking this point for a least a year or two now.
...but what do the cable companies get out of it? i mean, the cable company still has to provide a cable box with HDMI out to be fed into the xbone. xbone doesn't outright replace a cable box. it may give the cable company a slightly better interface but companies like comcast already have premium interfaces that they charge a premium for. then there are the extra services like movie rentals that cable companies provide that MS would then be challenging them for.
i just don't get the pitch. MS walks into the cable companies office and says you should sell xbones because "....". unless the "...." is "here is a large sum of money." i don't know know what MS brings to the table. ..and if it's money why even bother,.. MS could just sell xbone at a loss.
