Ice Climbers are actually viable? What is this? xD

Ice Climbers are A-tier on the Smash Community. There's only one tier above, which is the S-tier, and its only character is Meta Knight.

If done properly, you can chain-grab an enemy in an endless loop by mastering the pair's move. Yeah, Ice Climbers are born killers.

You're playing in 4 player matches? Ike could be pretty boss then.

Apparently Metaknight is banned in this tournament - he must be unstoppable in decent hands

What do you guys think in terms of characters too?

If you want to keep your friends, just remember:

Winners don't use Meta-Knight.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Metaknight IS unstoppable. There's a movement banned in every tournament he's included that allows you to spam an invisible cape on which you can ambush your enemies and be untouchable.

Though, in decent hands, anyone can be a beast. If I recall right, one of Japan's finest players play with Ganondorf.

Do you know advance technique?

I would go for snake- learn to control the nades and space with his tilts

Taking part in a Smash Bros Brawl tournament in the next couple of days- I'm not expecting to come top 3 (although it's not a huge event), but I don't want to look like a fool either. I know all the basics and some of the slightly more advanced stuff like shielding/air dodging/whatever, but I wondered if there were any higher-tier tips that could possibly give me the edge over players on the same level as me.

I don't even know which character I'm going to use - I like a range, including the apparently useless Pokemon Trainer who I can win rounds with

Thanks!

So how did you do?

Diddy Kong! Has two long range attacks, a good recovery, quick on his feet, banana traps and strong aeriel/ground attacks.

Pick Ganondorf and punch your opponent into oblivion.

Some pro Yoshi player was too much for me to handle in the second round (he was crazy)
