playing portal 2 co-op with my steam buddies on ps3 was great.

...community based games need communities and the best way to do that, imo, is to connect all the various communities together. i should be able to have ps4, xbone, wiiU, and PC multiplayer all connected together.

cant see it happening tho, how can MS sell Xbox live and claim 300,000 servers with people playing them from there Wii U who arent paying.

Im sure they all will play with PC nice, but will it lead to the next set of exclusive content. Which PC games have exclusive MP with which console!

well they could still send the bill to nintendo or sony.... but we don't really pay servers either from what I get.... it's MS renting them to devs I think.... devs don't have to use MS servers if they want to use their own solution...

so even if I don't see it happening any time soon.... I think it is very possible if a dev studio wants to do it...

Square Enix wants to do it right now with FF14, MS said no.

Dreamcast did this with Quake III back in like 2000. This should already be pretty standard by now.

Sony already allow cross play with PC, there are such titles on PS3, the politics of allowing it between consoles is a minefield.

I currently play FF14 with on my PS3 with PC peeps, although i find the PC people tend to talk down to PS3 players, i find it easier to just pretend im on PC and they cant tell hehe.

Awesome, I did not know that. I do know there are a few games coming to Wii U that are cross play with PC, Mac, Android and IOS.  I think it's a feature that will become a lot more popular especially if they manage to bring cross play with all next gen home consoles.

This happened before FF14. Square Enix did this with FF11 on Xbox 360 and PC. But again the PC people just talked down to 360 gamers. To be honest this is why FF14 will go the same way FF11. I tried it back in 2006. It didnt help that FF11 was pretty bad though.

This is the problem. Microsoft has invested alot more money than Nintendo and Sony into Online multiplayer and its dedicated servers. Theres just no way Microsoft is gonna allow Sony or Nintendo to essentially get free Dedicated servers for their games and in Sonys case still make money off paying Sony gamers.

Titanfall is a possibility for PC vs Xbox One though. Major Nelson talked about how there might be the option for developers to include Mouse and Keyboard controls. Imagine ALL PC and Xbox One players playing against each other on a game designed around the Cloud powered gaming all on Mouse and Keyboard. Titanfall is if I remember correctly only available on Xbox Live on Windows 8. So its not even gonna be on Steam. It has to be on Xbox Live PC or Xbox One. Both devices using Cloud servers from Xbox Live.

FF14 would never be running on MS servers tho, SE have there own setup, if MS really are changing, then they should make FF14 be the first to be allowed.

Sony have the rule Free to play and subscriptions games should not be behind a paywall as they run on there own servers anyway. Hope this means MS are about to follow suit.

Interestingly enough FF11 for 360 ran on teh same servers as PS2 Servers as well as PC players, so its not totally without precedent just was along time ago now.

Id rather something decent though like World Of Warcraft. Make that happen instead of FF4.

But yeah Titanfall is a definaite possibility. PC and Xbox One are all on Xbox Live servers and use Xbox Cloud processing. So that is definately possible.

First person shooters arent great for cross play, Mouse and keyboard players have to much of an advantage, weve seen that fail before. Id like to see car games and fighters, games where its better to use either a pad or steering wheel fight stick, inputs that are more widley used on consoles.

Theres a big rumour going around Xbox One will support Mouse and Keyboard. Devs can use it if they want to. Its just another control method. They already have Touchscreen, Motion control, Controller and Voice. So Titanfall could incorporate Mouse and Keyboard for Xbox One.

This. Dream scenario that probably won't ever happen, but this.
