Their entertainment division which the xbox division is a part of, has been a continuous money sink for the entire duration of the Xbox line. They still havent recouped their initial investment and the operating costs while profitable as a business still leaves them in the red. But MS has a shit ton of money.

That's a lie, the division has profited for the past 6 years. I have the figures .....

Well that's what Microsoft's investors say and the books that keep it detailed.

IF it has made them a profit then, according to them its "not enough"

Since it started profiting in 2008, it's made $4 billion. It's not compareable to usual MS products but it's a good haul, investors always have unrealistic demands/expectations.

Thats why they want to sell it. For the share price

its useless cause i don't think Sony or M$ allowing that unless Nintendo release their franchise on Sony or M$ console in order to do so which is not going to happen too...

Not quite useless. I agree, Sony and MS aren't likely to come around, but this opens the door to PC and, especially useful to the Wii U's tablet format, mobile multiplayer.

pretty nice feature, however i doubt sony or ms would do the same. Sony allowed cross platform play with PC, but i doubt it would do so with nintendo.

i think sony would be open to it since they have done with a few PC games but M$ on the other hand is a different story

Excellent move, gratz and thanks to Ninty for removing some barriers amongst gamers.

Sony and MS have no need to do this though do they?

"Need" and "should" are not quiet the same. Pretty much the same difference as "assholes" and "maybe somewhat nice."

What? They're businesses not charities ... gees expectations or what. Next you'll be saying MS should be sharing their profits with Nintendo.

I'm talking on the consumer level, not the business level, I already know what happens at the business level, I'm always, always, on the side of consumers, never the corporations.

put tekken 7 on wii u with this feature and im sold! forget ps4 if this happens

MS won't do this because Live is their big seller and their big money maker. Their 1st party titles have very weak brand value, with the only one even close to a household name being Halo. People buy XBox because they want to play 3rd party titles like COD or Madden or GTA with their friends, and their friends are on Live because launched first and launched cheapest last gen. If there was cross-platform online match-making, there would be little reason to buy the XBOne. Hell, even the PS4 would become a tougher sell when you can pick up a Wii U cheaper and play online for free. And with Sony moving to a paid online model, they too have reason to keep you on their network and try to convince you that it's worth $50 a year. Tougher sell if you are playing the same game against people who are paying nothing.

I would love it if it became widespread, however. What a world it would be if I could pay no subscription fees but play against my friends on XBox and PS.

Gaskell, though, said the feature isn’t yet locked in for Pure Chess as Sony still has to answer positively, but he doesn’t expect any problem:

“We’re still talking to Sony about them relaxing their policies, but we don’t think they’ll have any issue with it. So when we launch Pure Chess you’ll be able to play against Wii U, 3DS, iOS and Android players. And when we patch PlayStation those consoles will be added into the mix as well”

There's a good chance that Sony will be on board with this.
