Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo allowing cross-platform online play with Playstation, Xbox users

If this applies to the retail games, there goes the fear of buying, for exemple, CoD and not having a online fanbase to play the game with.

Which is exactly why Nintendo did this and why Sony/Microsoft won't. If the tables were turned and Nintendo had the majority core online audience while Sony/Microsoft had very few, you'd see them attempting to leach online players off Nintendo and Nintendo refusing.

Damn it Nintendo, get with the fucking times. Walling off your services is the way of the future! Stop playing last decade's game!

Sony and MS have no need to do this though do they?

Yeah, I don't see Sony and MS allowing that they'd gain nothing from it.

Making things more open is kind of like an "Everybody wins" situation. I'm not seeing what they would lose by doing it.

Network effects.

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing

I understand.
But can they refuse even when the game is beeing played on the developer`s dedicated servers?

Good stuff. Nice to see Nintendo adapting, getting ahead of the curve even.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

"Need" and "should" are not quiet the same. Pretty much the same difference as "assholes" and "maybe somewhat nice."

What? They're businesses not charities ... gees expectations or what. Next you'll be saying MS should be sharing their profits with Nintendo.

You know they'er infrastruce is all their. The features are there( but to be honest some of them that arent on teh 3DS/Wii are missing on the WiiU so they gotta fix that)

And they're all backwards compatible. More bluetooths, controllers and what not you have to buy for the other devices.

People ought to find out more before they start running off the mouth.

What nIntendo needs to do is streamline their management and cut the useless fat out in their business departments.

Nintendo and Valve are interested in working together so perhaps we'll see more WiiU/PC cross platform play

Oh great, now they're going to copy what Sony did years ago! Real original, Iwata!!!

its useless cause i don't think Sony or M$ allowing that unless Nintendo release their franchise on Sony or M$ console in order to do so which is not going to happen too...
