I know nintendo faithful hate to hear this but nintendos only choice to survive is go third party with home consoles and continue making 3DS and other portables, third parties are not gonna be strong as they are on ps4/xone, and yeah ninty have a bunch of IPs that sell in volume usually, they're losing that market slowly but surely. Less of my friends and their kids/little brothers play pokemon and thats because nintendo platforms can only sell first party IP's, and no matter how fun they are they are getting fatigued.
Please Nintendo, for the love of your employees, continue making great 3DS software and go third party with home consoles.

I can understand why Iwata would make such a statement. Compared to Sony and MS Nintendo is small fry. They don't have the machinery to push the company and it's products forward with brute strenght, and if the game department operates at a loss they don't have other departments to make up for it because gaming is all they have.
That's why it's so important for Nintendo to go their own way and create unique products, something that they have failed to do with the Wii U (so far). I think part of Nintendo wants to play with the big boys and battle it out to make third parties happy but that's a battle they'll never win, and the sooner they forget about it the better.

yes.

In itself its a contradicting statement. To diferentiate your products, is to compete.
