No. There hasn't been a lot of defense from Sony. The only thing anyone from Sony has really said about Beyond is that Shuhei Yoshida said he gave his feedback to David Cage and that he has confidence in his next title. That's it. If you want to talk about a big corporation going on a lot of defense, I can point you to a lot of articles from a particular company I think you're familiar with.

David Cage, on the other hand, is acting defensive over the critical reception and he needs to get over it. The territory he plays in is different and thus very divisive. He's going to take some lumps by trying to go against the grain. Considering that Heavy Rain received the average score it did while being just as divisive, I think that's indication enough that it's simply that Beyond wasn't as good as far as the critics are concerned and that this isn't some kind of witch hunt or narrowminded view on the industry.

This interview took place before the reviews came out... unless you think that today the reviews came out, david cage saw them, gamestop called him, he was availble, they met up and gamestop uploaded the interview all within a couple hours

Apparently Beyond: Two Souls is failing in reviews and he seems to be upset about his approach not working with some gamers. On the other hand, Fumito Ueda's games are critically acclaimed but low sales makes him doubt himself rather than gamers, which is respectable.

lol what makes you think he was upset... he seems rather calm and reasonable to me

He makes good points here and there. But to just accuse hardcore gamers not liking his games because there are no guns and no killing is ridiculous. I don't know if it's just me but he does seem upset XD

He didn't say anything of the sort.

Lol... I was setting MB1025 up for it but he didn't respond (probably because he couldn't back up his claims) you were just a victim of circumstance lol

A game is entertainment, this game is entertainment, and like all forms of entertainment not everyone is going to like it while some will love it, its getting varied reviews because it doesn't play it safe and veers off in to the love it or hate it realms where middle ground is rare.

That's what he "implied" to me but I could be wrong.

He didn't imply anything. He explicitly stated that before heavy rain he had a very small community of fans who played his previous games and he needed to convince others that interactive storytelling could be enjoyable. Beyond is different because they have a larger group of fans because of heavy rain but there are still people on both ends of the spectrum that they need to convince. One hand there are the hardcore gamers who think games should be about shooting, killing, action, competing and andrenaline.

He never once says "they don't like my game because it's not about those things"

AINT NOBODY GOT TIME TO WASH OFF THE WHORE

The way I see it is that Quantic Dream produces a niche style of game that not everyone enjoys, but instead of staying fairly niche like with Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit, Beyond was well advertised (in comparison) and much more in the spotlight. Because of this, it is going to definitely get much more scrutiny than the other games did as people who care nothing about the game (and probably didn't know much about the old games) now know a lot about Beyond and see it often as Sony has really pushed it. It's a tough situation for a studio to be in, I believe. You can either stay relatively unknown but those that do know you, love you, or be known by the masses, but a large portion of the masses dislike your style. So is it people who liked the old games who are now disliking Beyond, or is it people who didn't like/didn't know about the old games who dislike Beyond?

oh really? where...

He's referring to this(scroll down to read comments about reviews): http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/10/08/beyond-two-souls-out-today-on-ps3/#comment-905615 And Shuhei Yoshida tweeted about David Cage and QD: https://mobile.twitter.com/yosp scroll down. MB1025 is correct they are standing in defense of QD and David Cage after today's round of criticism.

He should have released it on mobile and tablets and no one would have complained...
