That's almost affordable. At least if it's as amazing as the OP claims.
But I wander if it's like 3D at the cinema. Quite amazing at first but not that special in the long run.

Looking forward to this after I decided on a steam machine.

Haha, everyone envies me. Let it be known that any member of VGChartz is welcome to come stay in my penthouse for gaming, surfing and partying if they're ever in South Africa |
Jeez, that's too much to handle for me.
Expect me to declare you "luckiest person on earth" as soon as I'm able to close my mouth again!

Seriously. What a man! Some days I can't help but think you're making all of this up lol |
I suppose that would be the obvious conclusion.
I hope I don't come across as too flaunty here on the webz. I suppose I can counterbalance what people are thinking by making a thread about the heavy experiences I've had in my life *gulp*.

I think that's a bit of an hyperbole right there!
But since we're rolling with this; some mornings I wake up so unbelievably fucking happy about my situation that I feel like crying. lol.
Now, if I get a bursary for the next three years *fingers crossed* and my goddamn thesis gets finished (it's been depressing) and accepted, then I will feel like the luckierson on earth. That means 3 years of no-worries awesome time.
"and partying"
Wonder if anyone here is into the trance scene though :- might be a bit heavy for the average videogamer haha.

GOOD CHOICE!
I'll be there with you. I'm going with (in order of importance):
- PS4
- Steam Machine
- Wii U (eventually - when they make it impossible to resist - i.e. when the new Prime comes out and a new Zelda. I'm playing Wind Waker on Dolphin right now anywayz)
- X1 (Fact is, someone in my flat will get one - probably for free too haha. Dunno what I'm looking forward to on it though :-/ )

One possible drawback is motion sickness. I've never had any problems with that, but it will probably affect some people.
I honestly don't expect it to be a case of the "novelty" wearing off as it does with 3D. It actually ads to the immersion and isn't gimicky.
HOWEVER, I wouldn't ONLY play with VR ever. It's a little too immersive if you get what I'm saying.
Oculus Rift is more about immersion, rather then 3D.
It's important to make a distinction between the two.
3D is about depth.
Immersion is about being there.
First Person offers the best immersion.
Shooters are obvious, however fast paced action could be quite exhausting.
Adventure and survival horror seem like a good fit to be really immersed.
Racing and flight simulators are also quite popular.
Other perspectives like third person and top down are being made, however I'm not sure those are compelling enough. VR doesn't apply to all kinds of games.
Planning on getting Occulus x Omni x Delta Six next year. Will be glorious!
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
