If they can get the cost down I think VR will be the next big thing

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
may i ask.. why is she wearing a wetsuit to play?
im jealous btw man
| Dr.Grass said: I HIGHLY encourage anyone to try one out if possible. I wouldn't buy the dev version though, except if you have wads of cash lying around, because (as mentioned) the resolution is quite low and the price quite high. If you like fancy shit, then DO IT. Mark my words, this will floor you. |
I soooo envy you!
I've always said that Oculus Rift-like VR headsets/helmets will be the next big thing in gaming, a true revolution. (Actually, not only in gaming, but gaming is where it will first become extremely popular, paving the way for success in many other fields).
And that despite the fact that so far I never even had the chance to try the technology out.
BTW, for people who are now becoming interested in the technology: There is a project called "Dive" that allows turning common smartphones into Oculus Rift-like devices, at virtually no cost. All you need is:
- a compatible smartphone
- a frame that you can build from wood or simply print out on a 3D printers
- a pair of lenses (available at Amazon for a handful of bucks)
- some free open source software

Pretty much the only, but clearly biggest problem both solutions still suffer from is really the resolution!

$300 for dev kit so retail wont be more than that.
I'm waiting for the 1080p version before I buy one.

That's most definitely the smart thing to do!

Haha, everyone envies me. Let it be known that any member of VGChartz is welcome to come stay in my penthouse for gaming, surfing and partying if they're ever in South Africa
OT: I can't overstate how big of an impression this technology, albeit unfinished(!), has made on me. I'm really, really hoping Sony gets the VR thing going for PS4!
VR glasses aren't something that interests me. I can see what they can provide for immersion, but I can't say that I'm convinced.
I guess it's one of those things that you have to try to trully understanding it.
Please excuse my bad English.
