Bethesda don't need to realise anything, they said what they wanted from a Nintendo system to develop for it, Nintendo didn't deliver, so Bethesda is out.

"Undisputed king" isn't doing so well now though is it? Or will it vs X1 and PS4.

When it comes to home consoles they're definitely not undisputed.

Anyone who agrees with a sentiment like the bolded above, is either pushing an agenda or does not know what they are talking about. Which one is it in this case I wonder?

I'm going to side with Seece here. On the console front, Nintendo has yet much to prove. The Wii came in as a hit out of the park after the N64 and cube's struggles. Meanwhile, Nintendo's handheld lines continue to boom (with some struggles in the West for the 3DS).

Having said that, the Wii line needs to prove its success with the U, so it's not a cemented victory. Also, the twins combined sold more than the Wii and much of the market is not found on the Wii line. Examples are GTA, AC and COD. Though AC and COD are on the Wii line now, their sales are incomparable to the sales of their analogues on the twins.

When it comes to the home console front, Nintendo's victory is still under challenge.

I agree with the post after that though.

Yeah, that all makes sense if the video game industry was 2 years old. Let's just say that anyone who wants to take aim at Nintendo as the king of video games have a few decades of work ahead of them.

There's no real point in discussing this as if it's somehow related to personal tastes or preference, pick any metric you want, and Nintendo is clearly in a unique position in the video game industry. There is no one who can hold a candle to what Nintendo has done, and there won't be for a long, long time, if ever.

As a Wii U owner I WANT 3rd Party support- I appreciate that Ubisoft has been one of the few to support the Wii U - Mater of fact they have supported the Wii U more than Nintendo has so far- Yet people complain that Ubisoft does not ship quality products or leaves off parts of there Wii U game versions - yet Nintendo leaves off the same or similar parts on nearly all its 1st party games-

Most of Ubisofts games have sold well on the other consoles except Rayman which has not sold well on any of the systems including Wii U- yet Rayman is clearly a high quality game that is severely underappreciated- it is easily as good a platformer as most any Mario game-

So many Nintendo fans complain about lack of 3rd party support but when a dev actually supports us their games don t sell and the Nintendo fan peanut gallery comes out in full critisim mode trying to blame our precious few 3rd party dev supporters for our not supporting them-

Someone please tell me why would any business (other than a charity) support the Wii U? They lose big money and get vilified for their efforts- Yet Nintendo barely supports its own console, fails to follow thru on getting 3rd party support, continuously delays their own 1st party games - yet they never do wrong and its all the 3rd party dev s fault for not supporting the console- WOW After the current roll out of 3rd party games (most of them from Ubisoft) thru year end- our 3rd party support is going to dry up fast - I can t imagine Ubisoft continuing to support us past the current lineup -

Clearly any 3rd party dev that had considered supporting the wii U can now look at Ubi s experience and have all the proof they need that it is a bad idea- Unfortunately the wii u is going to become a Nintendo exclusive machine at a time when Nintendo is struggling to get games out and a time when they are not willing to invest the resources needed to make up for the fact the few 3rd party s who were doing things are no longer going to do business w them as t relates to the Wii U

I guess we should appreciate the 3rd party games we have and will be getting the next 2-4 months because there will be little after that-

@bold. But I thought I mentioned the N64 and the Gamecube. So anyway I disagree wholeheartedly with you.

Nintendo is in a very difficult spot right now on the home console front. Sure, they have Mario and Mario Kart, as well as Zelda, but so did the cube. What makes the Wii line different is the new gamepad and the fact that Iwata is at the helm, but the U is not a comforting launch especially compared to the Wii.

So, I empathize with you as a Nintendo fan myself, but really it's best to keep hopes in check with the realities of the industry. Nintendo could be doing much better. They'll be fine, but you can't underestimate the importance of Sony and MS' market either.

Videogames exsisted before the N64, and so did Nintendo. Anyway, I am talking about videogames and what company is the king of videogames. To restrict that to a certain subset of home consoles is arbitrary. It includes, arcade games, hand helds, software anything associated with video games basically and obviosuly needs to take into account the full history of video games as well as the cultural impact the games and companies have had and continue to have. There really is no contest, and what is painfully obvious is that Bethesda in this context is a mere midget compared to Nintendo and thus sounds pretty ridicolous when telling Nintendo what they should be doing.

@bold. Captain obvious to the rescue.

I know that... I'm saying that as of the N64, Nintendo struggled, and they yet have a lot to prove.

Nintendo is certainly not the King of videogames. Many games have sold tremendously (Angry Birds comes to mind), and there is more to being the "King of video games" than sales.

When Bethesda was talking, and what Seece was referring to, was the home console business. The topic of this thread is the Wii U and by association the home console market, and as such, in that context, Bethesda is no onboard _and_ Nintendo is not the undisputed winner.

@underlined. 1st of all it's "Ridiculous". 2nd of all, Bethesda is a 3rd party publisher, and as such request certain things from manufacturers in order to offer their partnership. So your comparison is totally invalid in this context. What is valid though is what I said, that what Bethesda is saying is BS because they never supported Nintendo regardless.

Ok then, if Nintendo is certainly not the king of videogames, then who is? No one?

Anyway, the point I made is that Bethesda are free to say: "we wanted this and that, if we were to support whatever platform". What makes them sound foolish and as if they overestimate their own impact is when they say "Nintendo should have done this or that". Sure, in the limited context of getting Bethesda to devlop for their platform they obviously should give them a say in what they want to see. But again, that is ridiculous all the time support from Bethesda is virtually completely irrelevant for what a company like Nintendo does.

It's the eqivalent of Hamid Sourian telling Aleksander Karelin that if he had just followed his diet he would not have lost to Rulon Gardner, if the Carley Ray Jepsen analogy was not clear enough.

Good chuckles at Bethesda.

So, what Nintendo should have done was to listen to them on how to build the console? Hahaha. That's like the son trying to tell his father how to fuck.

Bethesda should recognize (as soon as possible) that Nintendo is a superior software developer to them as evidenced by total sales, general reception, critical reception, number of releases, cultural impact, pretty much any metric in the world, and take that fact into account.

It would be incredibly asinine for Nintendo, the undisputed king of video game development, to listen to the whims of the likes of Bethesda. What could Nintendo ever stand to gain from letting inferior developers influence how to build their hardware?

Bethesda don't need to realise anything, they said what they wanted from a Nintendo system to develop for it, Nintendo didn't deliver, so Bethesda is out.

Yes because Nintendo's previous home console sales (HW AND SW) come close to PS1 and PS2 don't they ..., it also looks like PS3 will overtake Wii, it'll get the hatrick. How can you say Nintendo is better in this regard than Sony?

And I'm not Sony fan, so you can't say I have an agenda!!

If you take away Wii, Nintendo home consoles have never sold fantastic numbers, their previous high was like 60m.

1. No, they don't come close, they crush everything. That's why Nintendo is the King of Videogames.

2. It's possible to have an agenda without being a Sony fan. Also, do not forget that I left an alternative explanaition for non agenda pushing people.

3. If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

@seece, impertinence, he said software developer which is true. not hardware, guess u missed that.
on topic though, nintendo is trying , its just most 3rd parties dont give a shit about nintendo because they dont wait on them hand and foot , like m$ and sony does and that is a fact....

Really? What Nintendo PLATFORM has sold over $2 billion games? Hmm..

I don't have an agenda, which is an alternative way of calling someone a fanboy, nice try.

So obviously you're basing Nintendos home console success on Wii and discarding the rest. Right.
