Forums - Sony Discussion - Beyond: Two Souls reviews are up.. 73 on metacritic

If I wasn't going on 3 hours of sleep, I'd probably play this game all night. There are multiple endings to this game, so it'll be fun replaying this just like Heavy Rain. If you've played Heavy Rain and enjoyed what type of game it was, you'll definitely enjoy this. The voice acting is much better and a lot more consistent quality wise. Not a fan of the black bars though, and the graphical difference in detail between the characters and the environment was a little jarring at first. It's still a great looking game though.

Based on the 56 reviews currently used by Metacritic it's averaging 75.95% (76%)... weighted down to 73% because of the nonsensical weighting systems.

From the first time I saw 'gameplay' I wasn't impressed and fully expected the game to get mixed reviews, still I might buy it one day but only at a price less than £10 since the demo was just okay.

So far I like it a lot. I would say ~8-8.5/10 right now. Definately not as good as Heavy Rain, but no where near anything below a 7.

Btw, I'm floored by how the PS3 is sending off the visuals.

It is the best looking PS3 game by far.  No debate.  It just is.

This is just one of those games that you are either going to love, or hate. I found out about all of the reviews, and still bought my special edition. I haven't been able to play it yet, but I can't wait.

It always surprises me, that the gaming industry is always screaming at us about innovating games, and different experiences. Here is a game that is ,unapologetically, different. Not every game is for everyone. Just because the masses won't be flocking in droves to purchase this game, doesn't make it a poor game. I obviously haven't played it yet, but from speaking with friends that have, I don't think I will be disappointed.

I wish more companies were like Quantic Dream. Willing to take chances on something different.

I would say more emphasis on storytelling rather than gameplay and the lack of your choices feeling as though they have any real impact on the storyline.

With Heavy Rain someone could die and the game continues. WIth this game it seems like no matter what you do each chapter could play out differently but still reach the same end point.

Not sure if that all holds true later on though, but as of right it seems that way. Still, if you enjoyed a title like Heavy Rain I am sure you will love Beyond.

I actually prefer it that way. I don't really like multiple endings, except for what 999 did on DS.

I never played Heavy Rain. I was waiting for Beyond to try out this type of movie-game.

Thanks for the impressions :)

Now people are playing it, can anyone say why it reviewed worse than Heavy Rain?

There are 8 endings in this game, so your choices must mean something. Unless the end part of this game will be even more of a cluster fuck than Mass Effect 3.

hyped shallow game and wannabe-movie with big Sony marketing budget. I think this is the most honest description to this product.

It just isn't though. There's 4 games on PS3 that look more impressive even with their gameplay focused nature. I won't post pictures or say what games since that will derail this thread.

The only thing impressive about Beyond: Two Souls' visuals is the characters faces, just the faces though because if you look at the top of Jodies head and her body it's fairly low-res with visisble polygon edges and the textures aren't geat, then there's the environments which are nothing special. I don't think the lighting is great either, not bad but not impressive.

I do the honors then since I am pretty sure I have played the games you would have mentioned, which I am sure (2) of the (4) are God of War titles.

God of War 3 does looks phenomenal, but not as good as Beyond.

The Last of Us does not look as good as Beyond.

God of War Ascension does not look as good as Beyond.

#4 is a wild card, but maybe a Killzone title?

Anyways, I have played them all, plus I am playing Beyond and I can tell you it is the best looking game to date.

Have you played Beyond? Whether you think it is just the faces or not (Which is isn't), the facial animations, effects, lighting, etc... all make the game stand out. It truly is a beautiful game.

Also, those eyes! I can't believe how well they made the eyes.
