I have not owned a Nintendo console since the Gameboy Color. Not that I don't find some Nintendo games fun mind you because I definitely do. I just felt I could not condone them "Dynasty Warriors-ing" their franchises every few years. I find that really appauling and decided to boycott some of my beloved franchises due to this. Letting go most of Ninties franchises was relatively easy for me.....except for one. Pokemon is a cruel mistriss of mine. Those games were seemingly made for me, as I have OCD pack rattish tendencies and the Collect them all concept is super addicting. Yet Pokemon is one of Nintendo's worst offenders to my above claim. The reuse of the same sprites from over a decade ago.....really dissappointing. I relied on Emulators to get my Pokemon Fix because I swore to not buy another Pokemone until they went full 3D.

Well folks, it looks like my prayers were finally answered. Pokemon X/Y looks glorious.  Just finished watching the IGN review and after hearing of all the improvements and additions...... I am completely Sold. It sucks tho because now I have to go out and buy another console :/. I have been quite satisfied with PS3/PSP/ and Vita this generation and with the almost sure bet of Ninty following previous trends of only incrimental upgrades, I thought I was free. Now I have to find a way to fit a 3DS in my budget somewhere.

So for all those in the know, where Can I get a basic 3DS? Or in general the cheapest one I can find as it will basically be my Pokemon machine (maybe Bravely Default somewhere down the line). I live in the US btw. I do know of the 2DS and that would probably ideal for me if it wasn't so damn ugly and less portable  :/.

You should really get a 2DS as it's the cheapest, it's portable enough!

You might as well get a 2ds and call it a day because you'll just be playing pokemon.

Do they make the 2DS with a clam shell? Why they would get rid of probably the smartest design decision of the handheld is baffling.

umm, what same sprites? the earliest sprites they used in BW were from 2007.

More so that they continued to use sprites period was very annoying to me. And the fact that the Pokemon were basically rattling still images in battle. Just always felt they were doing the bare minimum of what they were actually capable of. XY breaks that tho.

I don't really know how to respond to this OP. You think Nintendo and Pokemon are appalling, yet you play Pokemon games? And illegally, via emulator, for that matter?

Also, what incremental upgrades are we talking about here, and why is Nintendo so guilty of using them? Graphical upgrades? Surely not the case, unless we're talking GCN to Wii, which was a small graphical leap. Gameplay upgrades? Again, surely not the case -- and certainly no more a perpetrator than Sony, Microsoft, EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, and 2K.
