Currently they save on pressing discs, paying for packaging, distribution and giving retailers a cut. So why do we pay the same price?
I feel that anyone doing so is only doing not only themselves a massive disservice, but leading towards doing the same to the rest of us. They see it as a conviencence to themselves, yet it is in reality only leading to a loss of consumer rights and allowing themselves to be overcharged for something they never really own. They are in essence paying more for less. Although that is for another topic and another day. |
They are still giving a cut to the middleman, being it Valve with Steam, EA with Origin or Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony over Live/eShop/PSN. And the cut is rumored to be around 30%.
I agree that price should be a lot more cheaper giving the extra costs they can get rid off. But doing that would make GameStop or whatever store dominates in a certain area angry by the situation, and would give the game less space in their shelves and thus lowering the physical sales of those games. And physical sales are still the majority, at least on console, not PC.
OT: Yes, I would have no moral problem downloading an "alternative" version of a game I purchased if they no longer let me do it legally. I did my part, it's them who prevent me to play it legally.
Please excuse my bad English.
