Why do religious people celebrate the Winter solstice (xmas)? Or why are they off on Sundays?

The meaning of things change. I know muslim people who celebrate Christmas coz it's sort of a national holiday now. I celebrate it too (well, I gather with my family) and I certainly ain't a Christian. No shame in that. Yeah, we also say "Oh, my God" in English, etc.

Pretty silly OP.

Christmas is done in winter in an attempt to help the transition for nonChristians of the time.

Many Christian holidays have changed over the years to help people of other religions just like it was with Christmas.

I wonder if you complain on New Years that it isnt actually the "New year" or run around throwing it in peoples faces like it matters that a year is not exactly 365 days?

As for the Sabath I think that was made pretty clear in Genesis. Also many are not off on Sundays as they would be fired. Seems only certain religions are free to express their religous freedoms

You didn't get my point at all. I didn't complain about anything, dude. On the contrary, all those things are perfectly fine with me. I was saying that the OP complaining about the "goodbye" thing is stupid and pointed out some other examples of stupid things you could complain about that make no sense.

Please read the OP and read my post carefully again.

Sounds like an interesting fact you just learned today, and needed a way to make a thread about it :)

I agree, Atheists can be annoying as fuck, and no...there wouldn't be world peace without religion (the stupidest thing Atheists say)...but wasn't really worth a thread.

the forums are really dull these days, and this is obviously a joke thread.

I completely disagree as there will be peace with out religion, and then ish will hit the fan

I disagree entirely. Yeah I know a lot of problems are caused by religion, but so many aren't as well. There are fights over skin colour, level of wealth, nationality, political views, etc. Religion is just one of MANY things that causes conflict.

Do you really think the world would suddenly be free of wars and conflict if everyone was Atheist? No fucking way! Then they'd fight over skin colour and level of wealth. Humans are naturally violent and will find anything they can to fight over.

Hahaha oh yeah I'm with you, don't worry. I don't think this was worth a thread, but I did get a solid chuckle out of it.

Eh... I generally say "later". Not any sort of religious statement, but that's just what I say unless I'm in some sort of formal setting.

Later.. doesn't that mean  " later we will meet god in heaven when we all die and be judged by our sins!"

No I did read it but someone who comes off as high and mighty being the "troll whisperer" should have just explained it in a better fashion. Sorry I wasnt trying to be an douchebag I just wanted you to see things from a different perspective. I agree with you, just not your approach.

All I did was take your post style and turn it around on you. As you see it solved nothing. Granted I completely agree with most here that it is something that has changed its meaning. However most of you are doing just what Christians did a thousand or more years ago. Taking someone elses religous holidays and turning them into your own.

I actually find myself saying "god damn it" and "jesus!" when things are going crappy. I've recently tried to curb that tendency and use the South Park future atheists of replacing God with Science in all of these instances. Kinda fun but doesn't quite roll off the tongue like the classics.

Yep, this as well as goodbye.

I grew up in a Christian family in a VERY Christian area, so it all comes pretty natural to me. I don't make a point to banish all of Christianity's cultural influences from my vocabulary, as I don't have a problem with Christianity at all, I just don't believe it in particular.

No, we say "Daily greet" and "nighly bye"

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

True Hitler and Stalen were both atheists.

Oh and Atheism is a religion. A belief in nothing is still a belief

Stalin was. Hitler was not.

Atheism is a religion in the same way not collecting baseball cards is a hobby.
