Analysis:
With over 1140 points, this was the biggest Feature so far this year, beating out last month by well over 100 points. Combined with the lack of September releases, this is likely a high point before a lot of big games come out.
The winner of the month was once again Nintendo, with the Wii U being the lead platform, Pokemon X/Y easily earning the top spot, and other games like X, Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros 4, a couple of Zelda titles, Mario Kart 8, and Donkey Kong all earning plenty of points, making Nintendo by far the biggest publisher.
With Pokemon coming out in October, the 3DS is likely to have something of a drought, especially after Zelda is also released in November. Those two games along with the soon to be released Ace Attorney 5, represent over 3/4 of 3DS points. Nintendo is going to need to announce some new 3DS titles soon if they want to keep the platform relevant in this feature.
The Wii U, on the other hand, looks like it will lose points only grudgingly. 2 of the top 3 Wii U games aren't even 2013 releases, and between X, Smash Bros 4, and Mario Kart 8, Nintendo can singlehandhedly keep the platform relevant into 2014 without announcing new titles. Though I would not exactly recommend that course of action.
The PS4 had a moderate sized surge this month, while the PS3 had a minor loss. Considering the overall gain in points, they remained roughly even. The top games for both platforms are a mix of Sony-made exclusives and JRPG's. October's release of Beyond: Two Souls, with its 50 points, is likely to maker this the last time the PS3 has over 200 points total.
The VIta had a moderate gain month over month, which still leaves it in a poor position. Tearaway remains the platform's savior, while Ys follows closely behind as the RPG of choice. That said, the VIta performed better than both Xbox platforms COMBINED, with the 360 only earning a single point for the upcoming Fable remake. That said, the lack of Xbox releases in October might mean the One will get a final boost before launch day in November.
Last but not least, the PC, for the first time since March, had over 100 points this month. This mostly came from a number of smaller titles, as per usual, but the surprise star was The Witcher 3, with over 20 points.
Major releases in October include not only Pokemon and Beyond: Two Souls, but also Assassin's Creed 4, Batman Arkham Origins, Wii Party U, and Battlefield 4. Unless Nintendo announces something cool in about 12 hours, I can't picture next month living up to this one.
