Forums - Nintendo - WIIU FIRMWARE UPDATE LIVE!!!

What the heck, I had no idea the Wii U GamePad had a built-in sensor bar, so you can use your Wiimote's pointer with the GamePad's screen... :O That's awesome!

Damn Nintendo's update servers are slow. It's telling me an hour and five minutes just to retrieve data (which i think isn't even the downloading process?)

This is worse than the day-one update...

Edit: cockpunching server connectivity. At least it doesn't lose the data already downloaded when the connection is lost.

Anyone else love the new eShop music as much as I do???

Have a nice day...

My update said one hour then quickly dropped to thirty-something mins. Was totally worth it. My Wii games look so much better on the Wii U controller. I even went back and played some Virtual Console titles. I love Wave Race on the thing. Feels kinda like I did when I got the "New Xbox Experience" all those years ago. It's an awesome update that made things feel fresh and new.

Anyone else here notice the fan noise a bit more now, with the console slightly warmer? A few ppl on Gaf definitely noticed a change.

I wonder if Ninty bumped the cpu/gpu clock speeds or maybe putting an extra cpu core to work...

WiiU pad has a sensor bar built into it?   They must have planned this long ago and never got round to implementing it.

...so, does this mean can play Wii Virtual console on WiiU pad now?

yes

Yes to the sensor bar, or yes to the Virtual Console on Pad?

Huh. So why bother upgrading then? Good news for Wii owners though.

Off screen play is an under appreciated feature. Easily one of the best parts of the Wii U for me. Nothing beats whipping out some Punch Out while the rest of the family are watching Duck Dynasty or similar lame-ass TV show.
