I would say that since he released it on a garbage system that didn't sell, we're left with games like Resident Evil 6, but Capcom released Resident Evil Outbreak and Outbreak File 2, and those sold poorly on t he PS2. If not for developing the game to take advantage of an accessory we all knew wasn't going to sell, the games probably would have sold better, but the two games are well known for the poor load times. Great games otherwise.

We've told Capcom what kind of Resident Evil games we want to see by buying eight million copies of Resident Evil 5 and four million copies of Resident Evil 6.

I blame all of you.  Or atleast those of you who played that awful demo and still bought the game.  I game shared it and played through chapter one after it released and quit, it was that bad, but didn't spend money on it because the demo sucked so bad.

Dude, come on. Garbage system? That's a low blow, and not at all correct.

Sorry, that was a poor choice of words.  I meant it as in how poorly it sold.  I'm going back and editing it.  I actually own a Gamecube and 12 games.  All the games I own are good, except maybe Phantasy Star Online episode 3, and it's got a lot of good multiconsole games, though I bought them all for the PS2.

Resident Evil 6 better go back to its roots and not have that god awful cover that 5 had.

RE4 is the greatest game ever made! :p *Runs*

It's not even the greatest game on GameCube.

Second place is reasonable, though.

I still haven't played a game on any system that blew my mind to the degree RE4 did. I've played through that sucker 12 times, and bought it again on Wii I loved it so much.

RE 4 sold exactly the same as Remake on GC...how does make any sense

Dude is explaining WHY they went more action oriented in RE4 way back then.  You're talking about the end result of sales.  They aren't one and the same.

For the record, I'm expecting The Evil Within's return to the RE series roots to sell low too.  Horror games won't be huge just as horror movies aren't huge.  Reasonable expectations, people!

I can see it selling as well as Dead Space did at the start of this gen.

Well, that is about the same number of times I've played through Metroid Prime. :P

Prime is also amazing. Second best game of the 6th gen easily, for me.

I only read the OP.

Resident Evil was the first game I got with my Playstation 1. I loved Resident Evil 2 and thought it deserved to be game of the year more than Metal Gear Solid back in 1998. I kinda forced myself to finish Resident Evil 3 and Code Veronica. I purchased RE on the Gamecube and Resident Evil Zero. Old school Resident Evil fans, I'VE PLAYED YOUR GAMES AND I LOVED THEM until the formula got old.

Now, I purchased Resident Evil 4 as many times as legally allowable and I loved it every time. I purchased Resident Evil 5 and 6 on the Xbox 360. I played Resident Evil 5 so many times, it's ridiculous. I knew the complaints that many had with the game and I agree with them and yet, I always found myself playing the game again. That's the reason why I think Resident Evil going the action route is a good thing.

Maybe the name Resident Evil should have been laid to rest. I don't know. I do know that the old school gameplay had run its course. RE4 was a different beast and it was so much fun. Such a good game. While RE on the Gamecube was the scariest game around, it relied on atmosphere and graphics to wow. After the scares were gone and the graphics weren't so amazing (actually, they're still kinda amazing...), what was left? The game wasn't fun to play and the story wasn't really all that. The action route made the series addicting and fun. I'll take fun over tradition any day of the week. The old style just doesn't work anymore.

gimme puzzles and keys over shooting anyday
RE is dead for core gamers. it only survives as an online co op game

old RE is the definition of a core game gameplay wise

You guys have to see the sales in perspective: Resident Evil 2 sold 1m units in Japan *week one* if I recall correctly. To me Resident Evil 4 was a change in the right direction. I think people don't complain about the games being action oriented - they complain about dropping the horror element to some extend.
