Forums - Nintendo - Will The Only Games In Japan That Sell Over A Million In Sales Be On 3DS Only (2013)?

Will 3DS have the only million sellers in japan?

Yes 30 69.77%

No 13 30.23%

Total:43

As of Now 4 games are over 1mil in sales in japan. All are 3DS games, with another guaranteed to make it (pokemon xy).

Here is the list

2.24mil⇒ Monster Hunter 4
1.47mil⇒ Animal Crossing: New Leaf
1.43mil⇒ Tomodachi Collection: Shin Seikatsu
1.23mil⇒ Dragon Warrior VII

Luigi Mansion Might make it as it has currently 906k. The next highest title is not evn half a million sold (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle).

What do you think? any other games making it?

Personally aside from pokemon xy i think luigi might make it along side Puzzle and Dragons!

Your thoughts?

Most likely. Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) could have done if the installbase was bigger, and I don't see any Vita game doing that. What's PS3 holiday line-up?

And in 2014 the only games in Japan that will sell over a million will be on Nintendo platforms too.

PS3 has had two million+ sellers (FF XIII & Resi 5); PSP had 4 (all Monster Hunter) and 360 had none.

So, 6 million+ sellers on non-Nintendo platforms all generation, and one of those series has now migrated to Nintendo platforms.

I think a better question to ask would be "Will there be a non-Nintendo platform physical million seller on a single platform in Japan again?". And the only answer from existing known quantities, in my opinion, is that there is a possibility of Final Fantasy XV achieving this.

I do not think Kingdom Hearts will make it; nor do I think a Resident Evil game will make it again. And with digital always on the rise, it'll only get worse. Unless Dragon Quest or Monster Hunter migrate back to Sony platforms; or something ridiculously odd shows up like Gundam x One Piece x Jojo which takes the country by storm and slowly creeps its way up to 1 million (or indeed, something unexpected like Monster Hunter finding its home on portables).

FF14 PS4 and Kingdom Hearts 3 PS4

Now you all understand what Nintendo did to Sony when they took its only pillar away from Vita(Monster Hunter). Nintendo has left the Vita crippled and floundering helplessly

this is 2013! Anyway both have a good chance especially FF!

Japanese gamers are a picky bunch aren't there eh? Seems like only Nintendo big name IPs and JRPGs sell really great over there so i wonder why MS is so worried about that region because the Xbox brand doesn't seem to have anything to offer that would appeal to the Japanese crowd. At least Sony has a bunch of JRPs to push sales over there but the 360 had what 3 JRPGs during its console life not counting the Final Fantasy series?

They are both pretty much guaranteed. This is Kingdom Hearts 3 we are talking about. Not Birth by sleep, not Dream Drop Distance but THREE! Lol

In Japan, of course.

I know this thread is about Japan, but I have to ask... what can (or theoretically should have) propel the Vita to success in the West? Because it has Uncharted, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, LittleBigPlanet, FIFA, Need for Speed -- all very popular series in the West, most of them brand new titles and not just ports -- and it recently received a price cut. Yet still it is consistently selling less on a weekly basis in America and Europe than the 3DS sold even before its price cut, when its most noteworthy title was a remake of Ocarina of Time.

So maybe what I'm asking is, if taking Monster Hunter crippled the Vita in Japan, what move did Nintendo (or Sony) make that crippled the Vita elsewhere? Why has it failed to recapture the PSP audience in North America and Europe?

The only game I think that has a shot on non nintendo platform is Lightning Returns because it's so front loaded. But even then I think the shot is really small, because XIII-2 only did 0.9 million.

However, and this is a humongous if. If there's things more appealing in LR (Like the main character is actually lightning, tons of costumes), and it is recieved better, it could.
