People don’t care that the graphics aren’t hi-res, they don’t care that the angle of the character’s foot doesn’t match the 15° angle of the slope of the ramp he’s standing on, they like the gameplay. I think the average player – not the average game fanatic – but the normal gamer, cares more about gameplay than graphics.

Not so much the DS. To me, it’s almost a throw-back to the old days. The two screens are cool, but the resolution and the capacity of the games is a big step back. I see it more as something nice to take with you somewhere, but it’s not the machine I would want to shoot for as a primary platform.

Looking at the members of this site and the success of the Wii amogst long-time gamers, it's pretty safe to say people who care about stuff like HD graphics are a tiny minority even amongst "game fanatics".

I just love how he first complains how games are all about graphics nowadays, and then proceeds to complain  that the DS has too bad graphics. =P

I suppose it's a question of what you're used to. I spent most of 2006 and 2007 playing games on the Gamecube, Xbox, and Wii. The graphics never bothered me at all.  Then I got a PS2 in late 07, started playing through the massive library of great games, and couldn't help but to be annoyed by he bad textures, horrible jaggies etc.

So am I an evil hypocrat for saying the Wii's graphics are ok, but the PS2's bothered me for a while? No, I'm just used to the Gamecube's level of graphics, so the Wii is a step up for me, and the PS2 is a step down.

Just one more reason to avoid HDTVs like the plague until they're absolutely everywhere. =P

He is basing it relative to the state of PCs around 10+ years ago. The DS has really low amounts of memory and graphics compared to the wii.

People do know that he doesn't actually make games anymore, correct?

So hurray! Another great compliment for the Wii that will manifest into absolutely no games whatsoever.

Its like an endorsement in the presidentail campaign, sounds great in the media but doesn't do squat for votes
