Forums - Nintendo - Wind Waker HD a few dungeons in - Zelda done right

So, I'm back in the land of Wind Waker, and I am extremely impressed with what Nintendo has done. Bear in mind, I did a 100% (figurines included) run of the GameCube original just a few months back, so I am noticing all the differences very clearly.

Basically, they have taken (almost) every single thing that was wrong with the original and fixed it! It's pretty much perfect.

1. Sailing: Fixed - Swift sail rules

2. Difficulty level: Fixed - Hero mode makes you actually concentrate, and makes potions really really useful

3. Figurine side quest - fixed - no more delivering 1 pictogram at a time, playing the day/night sonata and going back in, now you can take 12 pictures and deliver them all at the same time. And you dont need to travel back and forth between Windfall and Forest Haven to get the deluxe pictograph.

4. Speaking of figurine side quests, the game will now tell you if your picture is good or not. awesome! And if you miss one, you can get it through Tingle Bottl

There are many other small changes, but what you notice the most is how well the actual gameplay still holds up 11 years later, all the stuff they didn't change. There is also very little handholding in the game, compared to both Twilight Princess and Skyward especially. You can always get help from the King of Red Lions if you really need to, but it's not thrown in your face, and the game lets you solve the puzzles yourselves. The dungeons are also quite inventive.

Majora's Mask has always been my favorite Zelda, but now it has strong competition from WindWaker HD, this game is pretty much perfect.

Congratulations to Nintendo!

And I haven't even mentioned the visuals, easily one of the most beautiful games out there, and with 11 year old 3D models...

Agreed on all fronts. Definitely the game they should have made back in 2003, if they'd had a more powerful machine and more time to work on the game. For a two-year development cycle, WW was pretty ambitious for it's time.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Yeah. People pretty much praised the game ever since it came out, but there were three major gripes basically everyone kept bringing up; the tedious sailing, the tedious Triforce quest near the end, and the easy difficulty level - all of which have been fixed.

What was arguably the game's strongest feature -graphics- has been vastly improved, as well. Everything else is just icing on the cake, and there seem to be tons of little fixes all throughout the game. It's just grand all around!

One of the best games ever and would be the clear option for GOTY award if it wasn't a remake. Now Mario 3D world has almost no competition.

Worst part is I've actually done it like 4 or 5 times on the gamecube version :) However doing it on Wii U is so fast, you can do all the pictures from a dungoen in just 1 trip, and even Windfall island in just 2 trips. With 3 pics in the camera it truly was not a quest for the impatient, also counting playing day/night song several hundred times...

So thanks again for fixing that Nintendo, gotta catch' em all!
