Ironic that he died at 85.

'85 is the year that Nintendo took over the videogame business FOR GOOD with the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Life is full of strange "coincidences" like these, isn't it?

Rest In Peace & Rise In Power Mr. Yamauchi.
Nintendo Power!
John Lucas

*hugs*

Around the Network

He was a stern father figure in the video game industry, he had his opinions and stances and he stuck to them. Not everyone agreed with how he did things (and he frankly didn't care) but without him Nintendo would likely still be a card company and the Video Gaming industry would exist probably much smaller and only on PCs with consoles being a funny experiment that died out in the early 80's.

I can only hope that people like him did enough to help the rest of the industry mature and take care of itself with his passing. Nintendo I think is in good hands with Iwata (again I don't agree with everything he does but he's a man and a leader) but when other parts of the industry are having twitter spats and delving into corporate namecalling I fear for the direction of the industry.

By this video game fan at least you will be missed. R.I.P. Hiroshi Yamauchi

What a legend! RIP Yamauchi-san!

Perhaps the greatest man ever in video game history. I guess he and Shigeru Miyamoto has to battle it out when THAT sad day comes...

take it easy man! one legend at a time!

My favorite character in Tekken.

Just kidding. Sad day.

Sad that he is gone, but he lived a full life. He brought the video game hobby back from the brink of extinction, and had a massive impact on how gaming looks today. I thank him for it.
