Forums - Sony - TGS 2013: Sony Confirms 5 Million PS4 for FY2013

The problem is my PS3 can already play COD, and AC and many other games that PS4 is toutting?

Why should I spend $500 to play one game, when I can play it for $60.

The answer is obvious...

Too obvious that Rockstar didn't want to announce a next-gen GTA V because they know a lot of gamers will wait the next-gen version.

Pre-orders mean shit on new consoles.

Of course pre-orders on new consoles are higher.  WHen you go to pre-order a new console you pre-order games as well.  I mean who goes and pre-orders a new system and doesn't plan on any games.  Most people pre-order system and games.

The ps3/360 versions will sell more than the next gen.  People just don't feel the need to pre-order

very reasonable. they have the games to sell 5+ mill by then.

names please.

Only the obvious activision, ubisoft and ea titles of course, those being cod, bf, ac etc. Considering how well they perform on current gen, its a sure-fire bet that people interested in the next gen, seeing said popular games to be featured and specfically designed to complement the new hardware, will make the jump. IMO obviously.

Of course, if the ps4 launch were like the ps3 launch where lesser known titles and new IP's titles launched with the systems, then I wouldn't dare suggest 5 mil for the ps4 by the end of the FY.

No one is forcing you lol. If you dont want the better next gen features of the console, graphics, games (There are some ps4 only games) then wait. Eventually ps3 support will cease.

I'm just pointing out that multiplat games, that are also available on 360/ps3 are not an incentive to jump ship to next gen.

GTA V says hi.

Rockstart knows if they announce a PS4 version a lot of gamers will wait this version instead to buy the PS3 one... I think you didn't know how the gamer world works.

The old-gen versions will sell more because the bigger userbase but the guys will always prefer to buy the next-gen version.

If Sony pulls this off this just shows that their brand power is coming back. I was going to say 3.5 million for 2013 but if they have the hardware and don't plan on ever being sold out, then they might be able to pull it off. Whats 1.5 million if you're properly watching the hardware WW?

brand power?  $399  > $499  than sony> microsoft.  price is low enough for tax time

So I guess brand power and titles didn't help Sony eventually outsell Microsoft in seventh year sales (from launch to the present opposed to Microsofts launch to one year ago) but also in overall sales.

what does brand power have to do with it?  when did sony brand ever had a meltdown as oppose to microsoft which is the american company foreignors love to hate?  you would swear that outside of america and uk microsoft was outselling ps3 for 7 years then all of a sudden the momentum shifted.  you know thats a total joke to even think ps3 outselling the 360 is a big deal same will be ps4 outselling the x1.  it's not a victory that deserves a happy dance.

LOL

not arguing about branding...  read a little.  2nd sentence says it all

I'm sure a lot of CoD users are buing a next-gen console just to play it instead to buy a old-gen... there are a lot of guys that will buy only CoD for Xbone/PS4 for months... it will be the unique game in their library.

Edit - To explain what I'm saying is that old games in next-gen consoles move more hardware than unique and exclusive new IPs.

Because you will be able to play a better running, better looking games. It's something new, itwill have new features not currently available on current consoles.

Personally for me I love open world games and guess what they are the games that suffer the most and need the most power, so yeah want it... who wouldnt want GTA/Sleeping Dogs/Mafia 2 etc all on next gen consoles with the benefits that come with that.

You may not be interested in that, but me as a gamer who buys lots of games... yeah its important. :) - if you only buy FIFA or COD and that's it, then yeah I agree it's not so important, but then new consoles are probably not initially aimed at you in that case.

That seems a little high to me. I think they can pull off 3.5mil. Above that would be a stretch. Maybe if the Xbone was still rocking those awful policies, they could easily pull off 5mil.

Keep in mind this is just shipped. They should be able to stuff the channels on new console excitement if need be.

Oooooooh. Well fuck that then. They can get to 5mil easy if they mean shipped. Sony has been doing well with the PS4's rep.

ONLY if those old games are exclusive to next-gen consoles.

Otherwise its just someone basically buying a gaming PC.  Is it worth spending $500 for updated graphics?  PRetty sure most this forum believes not.  They have been dissing PC gamers for eyars on how much they spend on a PC when they can play the same game on their 360.  But now they are willing to spedn $500+ on a console just for prettier graphics?

Thus why I dont' think we will see huge numbers of jumpers until the big name games become next-gen exclusive.  Obviously it will be hard to tell until 2014, cause fanboys and must have techies will jump and buy regardless game selection and/or price, and then holiday numbers distort things.  But will be interesting to see how sales go when its teh normal year and the average consumer is trying to justify spending $500 on a system to play the same games as his system can alreaddy play
