Forums - Gaming - Whats wrong with parents? Eleven year old child in France gets GTA 5 and freaks out

What else is out there that he can play. Hmm let me think. Don't tell me Puppeteer or Rayman Origins just came out. Imagine walking into your middle school and saying to your friends, "Hey guys i just got Puppeteer". Soon the kid would have no friends and his buddies would laugh at his face calling him a small little kid for not getting the latest Grand Theft Auto.

So these parents surely saved this kid's school year. ^_^

I don´t see the problem. I played Killer instinct Gold Goldeneye Resident Evil etc. when I was 11 and didn´t became a murderer. A child should know the difference between reality and fiction.

Who says you have to be murder someone for a game to be out of age range?

Pöease epxplain to me something I never really understood. What are the ratings for? I mean The Last of Us is rated M and a 11 year old kid wouldn´t know to appreciate whats great about that game. GTA is rated M and a 11 doesn´t even know what the game is about he is probably going to drive and do some mayhem just like we did in GTA 3, Vice City or San Andreas. And if a parent thinks this is appropriate for his kid then thats totally fine.

I started playing GTA 1 since about the same age. Actually I was 9. MS-DOS days. :)

But I do believe kids should be sheltered from sex/nudity until they hit puberty. It can really mess you up. Speaking from experience.

my 11 year old wouldn't get a gta game in a zillion years but that is my choice,it is rated 18 for a reason if you wish to ignore it that is your choice,

i've been in shops and seen mums pick up gta for their tweenies and younger, don't understand that myself when there are plenty of games to be getting on with

First I would say that Parents at least know that it is GTA and it can be violent as it is. Maybe they did not know about the nudity and sex, but still....it is RAted M!! The box probably even says nudity on it like most Movies do.

But even the Mass Effect 3 box says partial nudity and it had none

I was playing 18+ games when I was a kid so I won't be a hypocrite when I have my kids. In fact I'm more worried about people who are so shocked and moved by it or people who won't allow a 15-16 year old play a 18+ game.

We are talking about a 11 year old kid, not teenagers......

You know lets wrap all our kids in bubble wrap and tell them the world is made of sugar and kittens. If a kid at 11 can;t tell the difference between real life or a game, that's bad parenting.

GTA3 wasnt that bad of a game but for its time it was very mature. GTA today would most likely push the envelope even further in violence, sexual language kids shouldn't hear, misogynist statements against women, nudity, drugs and more in  cocktail to the point where kids beome desensititzed to it. Desensitization is why you no longer can scare a child any longer and the horror genre has gone down the shitter. You don't need to be the best director of a scary movie but today the genre has no chance any longer. The demands of violence, sex and drugs has grown to a rate where people need to see movies like Saw or even Hostel to even cringe. To make them even squirm they need visceral stiumli. What scared our parents fails to scare us. We can watch people die in real life because of it.

Most parents and old school pioneers of the war against videogames have made ridiculous arguments against videogames. I just so happened to have studied disensitization and just like rated R films and Videogames, they desensitize children to the point where the industry has to search for answers in how to shock people further. Children force themselves to grow up and again react less to stimuli before their time, therefore forcing the industry to go on defense.

In conclusion, our parents are more emotionally sensitive than we are.

I played GTA3 when I was 10. I think I turned out okay.

I am sure more parents have heard of the Hot coffee cheat in the last GTA more than they have heard about Mass Effect. I doubt many even know what Mass Effect is.

Still, if there is any chance of nudity, you probably should not let your 11 year old play it. There are ratings for a reason.

^ So Cirio.

Sex is natural, it is part of nature. Are you going to let your 8 year watch porn when you have kids? They will probably turn out just fine right?

I turned out fine. :)

The game slightly showed a naked womans body, but not enough for the side boob to count. If it were a movie it would've been considered R. Even Starship Troopers was rated R.
