Forums - Gaming - Whats wrong with parents? Eleven year old child in France gets GTA 5 and freaks out

I don´t see the problem. I played Killer instinct Gold Goldeneye Resident Evil etc. when I was 11 and didn´t became a murderer. A child should know the difference between reality and fiction.

I've been playing God of War and GTA since I was 8 and I'm one of the most non-violent people you'll ever meet.

This seems more like 'gorilla advertising.' Remember how when Rupert Murdoch bought MySpace then it was the lead story on Fox New every other day? He is kissing the game after all, seems happy.

Of course an 11 year old should not be playing that game. Like an 11 year old doesn't belong in an NC17 movie, in my opinion.

But it's also up to the parents. I wouldn't raise my kid like that, but then my brother took his, I thought too young son, to see Jurassic Park when it came out.

Ultimately, its the choice of the parents.

It is not 'gorilla' advertising.  The word you are looking for is guerrilla.  It comes from the term guerrilla warfare

Rebellion against a system that works for all parties involved is a problem, I guess.

But you're agreeing with me, then. Rebellion is an integral part of being a child. However, I don't agree with the later statement. How do you know the system works?

Well...as a child I wouldn't expect you to completely value rules of the system. Maturity isnt quite there yet. The system works because the media and associations know the games have a certain level of content that isn't suitable for children, but children want what they cannot have, so ESRB ratings protect companies from from ignorant parents when their children get access to games. Essentially those parents want them to stop making said games. The ESRB rating is the perfect legal protection and awarness for who these games at meant to be played by.

Rules that in most of the cases are censorship. Of course a kid is not going to value a censorship, especially those that comes from "the media and associations".

Well...it depends on the parents, but yes censorship is kind of needed to make sure things don't get out of hand. Those who are applicable should be able to see said things. Those who have no value for guidelines will not care. Children by default in most cases lack the depth perception to see the issue.

I let my kids play all games I don't mind the violence only sugestive & sexual scenes I don't allow. that's including films also, when ever we watch a good horror film I alwayg check imdb to check the parental guide on sex/nudity etc

with games im fine as long as it don't contain the said amount of content, I hear GTA has a scene in it, I will be finding out and skipping it before I game it back over

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

Why don't you just play the game yourself and review it before you deem it worthy for your kids to play?

But this is what I'm pointing at. Censorship, to a degree, may be admitable if it comes from your parents. But from the media? No. A father should be more of capable to understand what can he teach his son/daughter. Kids are curious by nature, and as you can see in this whole thread, we've all avoided censorship to see what's beneath it. It's part of being a child. It's going to happen eventually, no matter how "protective" or "caring" (which you're not if this is how you think) you are with your child. My father smoke when he was 10 years old. Do you really think that's what he wanted for me? No, but he didn't censorship things to me. He merely explained them. A father committed the same mistakes their sons will do, so there's just no point in censoring these kind of things.

Purchasing GTA V to your 11 years old son might not be the best idea, but trust me, given his reaction, this kid would have gotten his way onto the game one way or the other.

Who says you have to be murder someone for a game to be out of age range?
