Forums - Nintendo - Three More Original 3DS Models Discontinued in Japan- Sells so well Nintendo'es not need them!!!

I thought about this after the 2DS was announced, could they be phasing out the original 3DS leaving just the 2DS and XL? Maybe bring the XL to $179

2DS-for kids, entry level, no 3D

XL-adults, premium model, 3D

More than this, i see this as a gradual transition to phasing out the OG 3ds for the new OG revision maybe soemtime next year.

I think that would be kinda dumb, this is suposed to be a portable system and the 3DS XL is anything but portable, its kinda like the model people buy if they just use it at home, but if people want to put  3DS in their pocket and take it around with them then the original is really the only option.  Also with street pass and everthing Nintendo has been encouraging people to carry their 3DS's with them so idk why they would phase out the most portable option.

Look at the sales breakdown for XL vs. original 3DS in Japan .... way more people buy the XL, like by a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio on most weeks.

The LL (XL) is the main 3DS model now, the smaller, original one is a niche option.
