While Sony is a Japanese company, the country won't see the PlayStation 4 until next February. On the official Japanese blog, many commenters seem disappointed by the news. Some are angry, while others are resigned to the fact.P

Sony said the reason for the delay was that they'd like to have a strong line-up of Western titles (they need to be localized, you know!) as well as Japan-specific games.P

Here's a sample of comments (note that these are not indicative of all Japanese gamers):P

"This late launch is truly disappointing. But looking at the launch line-up it does seem like putting the console on sale this year would be hard."

"Promising pre-orders abroad there weren't enough machines for this country, so it was pushed back!"

"I thought if it was late, it would be December, but geez, we have to wait until February... Are gamers who don't play Western titles going to buy this at launch [in Japan]? I don't think there are many of those."

"I seem to remember Japan getting the Vita two or three months before it was released abroad."

Its a double edged sword.

Release early for those early adopters but have meh launch line up.

Release late and piss off those that want it sooner but have a better launch line up.

This has always been something that rubbed me the wrong way. A Japanese company focusing on the west more than on it's own country is so disrespectfull imo. Clearly it will be out in the west before Japan because Sony decided to focus more on the west, wich financialy makes sense but still disrespectfull.

Same thing when a canadian company (I'm canadian) gives more love to the US cause it's financialy more viable. Some work that way, other don't. But I hate those who do.

Butthurt Gamer Syndrome seems to be a global disease.

Sucks for the Japanese fanbase, but I can't blame Sony. According to this site, 9.5 million of the 79.1 million units sold belong to Japan. And Japan constitutes a paltry 1.5 million units sold of the 360.

Japan just isn't buying consoles like they used to, they are too busy with handhelds and phones. Sony needs to focus on the territories that will buy their hardware in droves before Microsoft gets to them. The silver lining is they get an awesome launch lineup of games.

I wouldn`t like it, but it`s for the best. No japanese centric games would mean that sales would eventually fall and that would leave a bad taste on everyone`s mouth.

With how western gamers are shit all over by Japanese developers, it's nice when we get preferential treatment from a Japanese company once in awhile.

Atleast Japan is getting the system, and atleast they get many of the best western games, even ones that are very text heavy despite low sales.  Can't say the same for most Japanese publishers towards western fans.  Sega and Square Enix.

I don't buy it. One is supposedly saying he wanted to buy BF4 on launch, lol yeah right. Another and that is just reaching, said that Sony should be more like Microsoft and he is envious of the xbone players, hahahaha fake ;-]
