Forums - Gaming - What is the case for the Wii U being the perfect upgrade we need now, and the PS3 and ONE being overkill?

The lack of games is one of the WiiU's problems, but another is it's similarity to current gen consoles. Buying a WiiU feels like buying another PS360, but with Nintendo games. It’s not so much about the graphics, but rather the perception of the buyer. When someone is comparing which to buy, they can see an obvious upgrade with the PS4 and Xbone, which will encourage purchasing it. People love upgrades, can't deny that.

Irrelevant to if you think graphics are important; the fact is people care about them. There are enough people buying over powered GPU’s ever year (guilty) to warrant Nvidea to constantly make new ones. If  that many people are prepared to spend that kind of money to just improve their PC graphics, you can sure as hell bet even more people will be considering graphics when making their much cheaper decision for a console.

Nintendo games in HD are a new experience. I even can't wait for Zelda WWHD, it looks fantastic. This, combined with the tablet interface which is great for surfing the net, navigating menus, watching YouTube etc, good 3rd party support, a decent price and free online make it a great product. It's also significantly more powerful than PS360, just also significantly less powerful than the next systems. You could stick with a PS360, but a lot of support will drop off for them in the coming year, especially from 1st party.

I think Nintendo needs to introduce a game besides NintendoLand that really exploits the Gamepad to make a lot of "casual" gamers interested in picking up the system. But even as it is, it's a great product that will have great games.

PS4 and XBOne are probably "more" of an upgrade than I need right now. At the price (including subscription fees) they approach a quality gaming PC. Right now it seems to me that Wii U makes a great living room console with the best local multiplayer and most exclusive content, while PS4 and XBOne are more like cheap gaming PC's. I'm leaning toward getting a new PC, but I am curious about PS4 - it looks solid.

I'm not saying graphics aren't important, what I'm saying is that games should be the main selling point of a console. 

As for your first point, we have agree to disagree. That might be the case for some "core" gamers, but the general consumer doesn't think that way, PS2, Wii, DS and 3DS prove this.

Can you show where the Wii U is closer to the ONE and the PS4 than it is the 360 and the PS3?

Because current gen consoles aren't getting Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Yarn Yoshi, Bayonetta 2, or Monolith Soft's X.
