1) Nintendo isn't the only gaming company that's seen its shares go down since 2008; the WHOLE industry peaked around 2007-2008, and has since lost shares.

2) If Apple would enter the gaming market I think MS and Sony would be in a much worse situation. Why? Because they rely HEAVILY on 3rd party support, and where would 3rd party publish their games? On iGame. They wouldn't abandon MS/Sony of course, but gamers would migrate to iGame since it would have all the games they wanted and needed. Only fan boys would stick with xbox and playstation and Nintendo. And out of those 3 Nintendo are the ones that's selling most 1st games, which makes it safe to assume they would be better off withou 3rd parties than either of MS or Sony.

Yes, I agree with this article because Nintendo is strong in Casual audience and their IP's more for selling their consoles but they don't have good third party support and very weak in Home consoles(wii just did hardware sales and first party software sales but not third party very much). If the Apple brought indie games to TV so many of the developers start developing for IOS since its profitable than Andriod and Nintendos portable might lose market share competing with IOS and android in future.

But, for Sony and Microsoft there is no competiton (in this category of Home consoles so they can survive) except Steam but PC generates less profit for Developers and retailers so only consoles are better for AAA developers.

Nintendo should just fork Android like Amazon is doing. App and game developers only have to submit their apps and games to Nintendo storefront. Nintendo will still get revenue from submitted stuff. Relaunch bluetooth enabled controllers for all their old controllers like NES, SNES, N64 and GC.

I don't think Apple will ever launch a dedicated gaming machine (or TV), nor do I think they need to.

I do think iOS devices will allow you to play mobile games off tv with a standard controller and yes there will be some bleed of less 'core' gamers to this (or Android Galaxy S4 which already allows this or the various home consoles using Android/iOS) especially as the tech gap between mobile and consoles shrinks.

I don't think this will 'kill' Nintendo though but it will be distruptive for the industry as a whole.

To be fair, they are only profiting due to abenomics. They'd be in trouble were it not for Japan's fiscal policy.
