Why should Nintendo lower the price when both XB1 and PS4 are going to face shortages for some time and they will start bring the actual games?

A parent who enters a store and sees recognizable faces like DK, Mario, Zelda, will see it as a good present for his kid(s) or just wants to buy the first console for his family, in the face of a smaller price or shortages, he will buy the 299$ console without a problem.

XB1 and PS4`s biggest competitors will actually be the Xb360 and PS3 because not only their games still look good, they are way cheaper and most of PS4 and XB1`s games will also come out on the older machines.

Hmmm....do you think that Sony's PS4 could be hurt more from the PS3 STILL going strong for the next three years (at least) than the Xbox One similiar to the effects of the PS3 being hurt from the sales of the PS2 and early sales lead of the XB360?

For instance, like you said in your post, some of the games coming out for PS4 are also coming out for PS3as well (WatchDogs, ACIV, etc.) not to mention that the PS3 will have console exclusives that the PS4 won't be getting (GT6, Beyond: Two Souls).  The PS3 is even getting GTAV for crying out loud.  Me personally I can't see someone buying a new console right now when the older one/cheaper one/console you may already have has content that the newer console may not even get.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

Lol of course this thread became non techie Nintendo fans defending Wii U graphics.

On topic, a $49 wii U would crush next gen in sales. Doesn't mean Nintendo should do it.

Let's face it, so many Wii buyers were first time console buyers, and not because they were / are kids. Wii U isn't on their radar, because they haven't actually become gamers. The committed multi-gen console gamers are primarily on PS3 and 360, and Wii U offers them nothing of note to take them away from Sony and MS.

Wii is looking like a one generation wonder, which ended up not being all that much of a wonder given Wii's going to struggle to outsell PS1 and won't come anywhere close to PS2's record, and with PS3 and Xbox 360 making late runs at Wii the final tally isn't going to look all that amazing.

Wii U really has no where to go except back to its core fan base, which is not all that big.

This.

If people want a WiiU they can afford it, price is not an issue right now.

They need more AAA multiplats and people still cannot differentiate the Wii U from the PS3 and 360. This is where the PS4 and Xbone will have the advantage in their debut. If you ask me, the tablet is holding the Wii U back......BIGTIME.

The tablet is the best thing about the wii u and it makes the console. How is it holding back the system when it makes the system. Again, coming from the point of a owner as opposed to a hater.

I think both PS4 and BX1 will be hurt also because of the previous consoles (PS3 and XB360 respectively), not only because of them offering a good number of games that are coming out on PS4 and BX1, but because the brands are still strong on those older consoles. Also, the experience they are going after is basically the same as offered in PS3 and XB360 - as is the gamer.

Not only that, they also have to face the direct competition: PS4 vs XB1.
Honestly, i can`t think of a generation where two competitors (for the same market) will go head to head. So things could go an umprediactable path here.

What i see happenning is both selling out ar first, but months from now, they will fight for the same market with only a few exclusives on each other`s sides. If we see PS3 and XB360 keeping a good sales level, it will be fair to say that it will take time for people to adopt the new consoles (until the exclusive catalog builds up; price drop).

Be kind and explain to them how "Wii U is only about as powerful techwise versus One and Four as Wii was to 3 and 360".

Maybe then they'll realize the truth.

No, the new price is great, I'm finally getting one.

I think the problem with that quote is that the Wii U is not 74 times+ weaker than a X1 running on fixed function pipelines. :P

Because AAA multiplats sold 100 million Wii's ...........No, multiplat is irrelevant on a Nintendo console. They just need to start putting out software that takess advantage of the gamepad and market the damn thing properly and they will be fine.

The Wii sold units because it was portrayed as an easy to use controller with motion and fun kid friendly games. When old people or controller challenged people take a look at the new touch screen, they wilol not be as interested. I don't think the Wii-U will sell nearly as many units as the Wii. My opinion.
