OK OK  OK  so this is not a real item and just a Wall Street Journal concept. However, read on and then answer if you'd likely buy this or not.

It wasn’t too long ago a Wall Street Journal rumor began making the rounds, talking about how Google might be looking to enter the gaming market with an Android-based game console of their own. Taking that simple idea and running with it, a “product designer” by the name Joseph Dumary created a concept video of exactly what a Nexus console could look like.

He calls it the Google Orbit, and it’s not so much the unique design that grabbed my interest (you can lay the system down in a variety of positions), but the depth of connectivity the creator so lovingly conjured up in his mind’s eye. Besides being able to wirelessly connect the console to a television using a technology Dumary calls “DP connect”, he envisions robust Google Glass connectivity, alerting you when friends are online, and scanning video game ads for QR codes that could instantly add a game to a download queue. Glass could also be used to show a night vision view in a game or, while using Google Translate, allow you to chat with gamers in different languages.

Do you think this will be embraced by the gaming community?

I'm just curious as the threads I've seen on Ouya and the thread I've made on Nvidia Shield got blasted with posts about how Android gaming blows.

I wouldn't touch it with a stick if it would look like the concept art :-/

I hope it is never released on the market.

If its handled like those two devices, then no. Apple nor Google would make a viable gaming console.

However, if its handled like a full iOS/Android media system with packed in gaming controller and seamless streaming from your iOS/Android devices and google tv type features / full chrome... etc etc all for like $150 or $200... then yes, it could sell a butt load.

Maybe not to the core gaming community but to the mass consumer.

I also think it would need to be powerful enough to either stream (very well) the latest games in great quality and/or actually have those digitally downloadble. That would make it appeal to the core gamers.

It's as bad as most of the PS4 and 720 videos put out a few years ago.

That makes no sense. Android as an ecosystem isn't locked, and anything Google brings to the table games wise should be accessible on other platforms. 

Nvidia shield for example has currently the most powerful hardware of any android devices. One of best build qualities too... How will offer something much better then it shares the same OS and same software.

I don't understand what Google is going to do that will make them the better choice in gamers eyes, other than possibly provide a cheap $39 console that will have proprietary ad serving technology. 

I wouldn't really care for it tbh. Even though it would come from Google, I can't see it doing or offering much more than the other similar android consoles.

For me, the Snapdragon line takes the crown here with full OpenGL ES 3.0 support. Nvidia is dropping the ball hard on mobile and that is pretty sad because they have the right tech to dominate this area but are almost out of momentum because of bad decisions.
