isn't sony's chip smaller too?  even with yield% identical sony ought to be able to manufacture at a faster rate as there are more chips per waffer.  ..as i understand it.

It is... in terms of transistors the Sony chip is 40% smaller.

OT. its probably around numer 2. Ms are a fantastic Software company & Sony hardware for decades. they know how to produce hardware.

If we exclude the 13 countries MS are releasing in (which we can agree will be the higher volume countries)... then what would we expect the number of consoles in those other countries to amount to? It's an interesting question, and if someone has some data it would be fascinating to know.

What are the console sales per week for those other countries would at least be a basic start.

It's not nonsense. It's plausible. Sony are hardware manufacturers, they invest in hardware development (such as chips or screens), have their own production factories for their products, things like that. They probably also have great long standing deals and partnerships with parts manufacturers. While Microsoft on the other hand don't, sure they had deals but as a software developer.

Makes me think that a Sony hardware with Microsoft software console would be awesome.

It's the voice recognition for the Kinect that's holding back releases in other markets, not production capability. That's the official line isn't it?
