Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 to be supported for three more years - Microsoft

Microsoft will continue to support Xbox 360 for "another three years", the platform holder has said, revealing that "over 100 new games" are still in development for the console.

Speaking at the Citi Global Technology Conference yesterday, CVP of marketing & strategy for Microsoft's IEB Yusuf Mehdi said that, "If you look at 360, that platform lasted for 7-8 years and it's going to last for another 3 years.

"It's incredibly profitable now in the tail."

He later added that "over 100 new games" are expected to ship on Xbox 360, including first-party titles Fable Anniversary, Project Spark and Zoo Tycoon.

Mehdi's comments suggest that Microsoft will begin to phase out Xbox 360 around mid-2016 - a dramatically different approach to that of the original Xbox.

Microsoft quickly abandoned the original Xbox during the previous console transition, focusing efforts on Xbox 360.

Xbox 360's successor Xbox One goes on sale this November.

Project Spark is a 360 game? Well, that's news to me.

If it really gets support for that long maybe it'll achieve a 100 million console sales.

Project Spark is coming to 360? Huh I guess that's good news then!!!!

from the game lineup i would have thought it ended a year ago already. besides multiplats.

I hope they'll drop the price to $129.99 so it can do well in poor countries.
$99.99 for next year would be good. It can survive with yearly sport games.
Still, I don't think it will hit 100 million.

Ain't nobody selling Arcade games like MS. People that have 360 probably don't complain...

We get it, Microsoft. You are trying to do the 10 year thing like Sony.

I was wondering how they would let people play Project Spark in october through the beta thing if X1 wasn't coming until November

Only 3 more years? think that will be when the servers are cut off or just games finished being in production?

I mean, since it's conception, Project Spark was announced as a 360 game. I don't see why people is surprised now ò.Ô

The article is not a word for word transcript, so i am sure that M$ isn't saying that 36 months from now, the 360 can't connect to a M$ server. I would guess what they are saying is that they will no longer create dashboard updates and intentional new content.
