Too soon.. came close to ''upgrading'' several times...glad to have stayed with windows 7.

XP and win 7 are my favourites too. Win 8 isn't too horrible on a laptop after you tame it, this is my metro screen after removing all the fluff.


Never use it. Windows key + X shortcut is my friend. And I added this shortcut "C:Windowsexplorer.exe Shell:AppsFolder" on the desktop to replace the missing functionality from the start button. Still it's missing a proper task bar, holding alt-tab while tab-tab-tabbing or mousing over to the right app with a track pad is annoying. Why do some things appear on the task bar and others don't. Hopefully 8.1 will fix the taskbar. Btw you don't want to run it on a laptop with less then 8gb ram, it has 3gb is use after startup. (compared to xp only occupying 200mb)

A cloud based OS sounds like an oxymoron. Isn't an OS supposed to manage your local hardware so you can more easily run software on it. What does the cloud have to do with that.

Chrome OS from Google is a Cloud OS... it just start and your desktop is a web browser and every applications runs in the Cloud.

Windows 10 is to be the same? I didn't like.

I'm running Win8 on a laptop with 6 gigs of RAM, and it runs like a gazelle.

Yea, Windows 8.1 is coming out next month. So I will say, probably totally unlikely. Plus, they are just now about to push it with some new tablets.

I think it will be at least 2 years before Windows 9. They are waiting for some new tech before they make DirectX 12. The closest think to Windows 9, in my opinion, is the new Xbox One. They are using some similar things, but Windows 9 may also cause some people some hardware headaches.



 

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

6 works too, I have 5.1gb in use atm with firefox open and running a small game, 8 is better though.
I guess you can be fine with less If you have the swap file on an SSD drive.

But seriously, I upgraded to Win 8 just months ago (was pre-installed on my new notebook, so wth) and yet another new version would be just too soon. Also, no cloud OS for me.

I think in the long run, I'm about to switch to Debian again. I'm gonna miss MS Office, but I'll get used to Open Office.
