Forums - Gaming - How can Sony (home) consoles sell more on average than Nintendo (home) consoles if Sony steals Nintendo's ideas?

I think both steal ideas from each other.

Remote play for example was a Sony ideia.

oh, was it?

Anyways, pezus, like JweinCom said, you are taking this argument to an extreme to try to discredit it.

And I've never seen anyone say Sony does nothing original and most of what they do is copied from Nintendo.

Either you're talking about one or two posters or just making shit up.

Sony serves a larger natural audience than Nintendo. They don't need to worry about Nintendo unless Nintendo hits a casual hot button.

The whole "stealing" argument is pretty much meaningless. That's a part of business that happens every single day throughout all industries.

Nintendo steals ideas as much as anyone else. Heck, they just lost a lawsuit over the way the 3DS uses 3D.

Many companies pirate ideas and improve above them, leading to greater success. Whether Sony did this remains to be seen.

You should just allow the claims of Nintendo fanboys to go by the wayside. It's their burden to prove Sony stole ideas, not yours to disprove it.

When Sony first entered the market they allowed anything and everything to be put on their consoles. PS3 is the first console to break that trend which is why its also the first of their consoles to remain in last place most of this gen.
This allowed them to get a huge following of casual gamers that became dedicated PS fans and Sony knows this. They even said before the PS3 launch that their fans didn't know what was best for them and needed Sony to tell them and that millions of them would buy a PS3 regardless of anything else.
Sony does have a habit of trashing something Nintendo does only to copy it later on. It's seen as innovation because a good portion of the fan base doesn't know anything about other platforms.

Also this trend is over. Sony will never see their PS1 and PS2 days again. My guess is PS4 will be their last console, Vita will be their last portable, and they wont try making another gaming phone again and just stick to be a 3rd party chip provider for phones.

I also wouldn't call their products inferior to what Nintendo has to offer. Excluding the PS1 and PS2 which had huge hardware issues, even leading to a class action lawsuit in the case of PS2, the functionality of their products is just as good as Nintendo. Move isn't inferior to the Wii remote, its just not any better either.

Yep, Powerglove, Wiimote and much more were outside ideas.

All Sony has to do is sell on par or above Microsoft in America and increase sales in Japan and they will sell one hundred million consoles. That is on par with the PS1 to be exact. MS put a deep cut into their marketshare. Put the sales of the 360 and PS3 together and you have just above PS2 sales. Microsoft serves the same market Sony was already entertaining.

Because of the third parties and their determination to spite Nintendo.

Not a joke, one hundred percent serious, and anyone who hasn't gotten it by now isn't going to get it, so discussion is impossible, but it still needs to be said.

It is not spite, they are just using PC power for their games as generations move forward and they want the best tech they can get to make their games. Nintendo is stringently conservative when it comes to putting together their tech. Too many loose ends that they leave for third party when all they want to do is port over games.

The reason Sony's consoles sold more has nothing to do the ideas Sony has stolen from Nintendo and everything to do with the mistakes Nintendo has made.

The first being that Nintendo controlled third parties with an iron fist when they were dominant. It's no wonder many were willing to jump ship when they had the chance. I'm not 100% sure why they didn't do it with Sega but maybe they were just much more confident that Sony would be successful given their reputation at the time.

The second is Nintendo being a victim of their own game sales success. I mean there's a thread on here where some people are fapping at the idea of Gran Turismo 5 passing 10 million (after price drops and bundling mind you) when Nintendo has had dozens of games sell well over that with many never seeing a price drop for years. They simply never had to rely on third parties like Sony does. Imaging how the PS3 would have done if it had received the same support the Wii had. It would have been dead because Sony can't carry a system with its first party games, you can just look at the Vita to see that.

I also think that the Wii actually did some serious damage to Nintendo in the long run even though it was so successful. I think it gave Nintendo the idea that it didn't major third party support at all or that third parties should either come or it's their loss which might have lead to a widening gulf in relations. It also gave Nintendo the idea that hardware specs no longer really mattered when they still do since it requires more effort for third parties to make games work for hardware that is significantly less powerful.

Another reason is Nintendo marching to their own drummer and because of that they've been slow to react to many of the things their competitors are doing. Their online isn't even up to what the competition had this generation let alone what it will be like in the coming one. That coupled with the fact that they seem unwilling to actually moneyhat any major AAA third party games (at least for Wii U) makes it unlikely that we'll see any serious challenge from them this generation as far as going after the core gamers that weren't already interested in Nintendo's traditional games.
