This is all just so amusing. It really reminds me about how everyone expected Ouya to take down the big three.

Nintendo announced stuff we didn't expect, so now we are confused and having to rethink everything over again. Nintendo could do great, or not. Their actions today won't really change their fate this holiday though.

Not going to change their fates this holiday? For one thing, their sales were already destined to pick up with Mario, Zelda, DKC and Wii Fit coming out. This $50 price drop and the Zelda bundle just ensure that sales ARE going to pick up. Being $100-200 cheaper than the competition, neither console, by the way, which will come packed with a game (to my knowledge), and both of which charge you to play games online....that alone is going to make this console very attractive to a lot of people now, they may have been on the fence, or undecided about which console to get period.

I think this will indeed "change their fate" and make them strong competition this holiday season.

I'm completely confused as to what is going on here, seeing as how I've been gone "forever", but I would like to point out that The 2DS being photoshopped onto the Villager's axe is actually a surprisingly accurate representation

2DS = Nintendo's axe of death?

Meh.

All those bolded things are news of the past. If they were going to save the wii u, they were going to save the wii u. This $50 quasi price cut and zelda bundle are far from the best things Nintendo is giving the Wii U this holiday. People are just hearing this news combined with the 2DS and freaking the fudge out.

A week ago, the biggest counter-arguments to Nintendo having a great Holiday were -- "The Wii U is too expensive, maybe if it got a price cut, but at $50 less than the PS4 no one will buy it," and "Mario would push consoles but it's coming out too late (December) to make a difference."

Now both of those issues have been rectified, and you have no actual reason to give for the Wii U to have a bad Holiday. It comes with a game and still costs $100 less than the PS4, Mario is launching in time for Black Friday, the Holiday lineup is pretty nice, you don't have to subscribe to a paid-for service to play online multiplayer... it's going to have a good Holiday.

Sony: We have one million pre-orders.

One for each of our troops.

Nintendo: We have a Hulk.

LOOL LOOOL LOOOL!!! epic win!

Yes, let's remove Nintendo outright from gaming! Then we can have ZERO innovation in gaming, and let consoles die out to smartphones and tablet gaming forever! Yay!

Sorry, I just made a hybrid alliance with Sonyites and Nintendoans against the xbots.

In actuality -- there's little overlap between Nintendo's audience (Nintendo loyalsts will buy Nintendo no matter what Sony/MS do and maybe get a PS4/XB1 for third party stuff + the kids/family market) and the PS4/XB1 audience.

PS3/360 honestly are probably bigger thorns in Nintendo's side because they're hurting them with cheapskate parents.

PS4 vs. XB1 is the direct war, they are aimed at exactly the same demographic.
