Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Reveals the Newest Addition to the 3DS Family: Nintendo 2DS

It's a very smart move release a $129 console the same day Pokemon is released. I think it will sell a lot.

However, I think maybe some people are going to get confused. I mean the console is the "Nintendo 2DS" and the cartridges are going to say "Nintendo 3DS."

I'm sure you already know, but the distribution doesn't have to be 5m per month.  Nov and Dec will obviously be higher than Aug, Sept, and Oct.

i do. i just dont see it happening. all you guys should be hoping it doesnt too, people should know i will be very creative with spurges sig.

Lol.  I was just sayin.  To me, I think 20m+ is just as unlikely has 14m- for the year.

Next up, have it function as other controllers for the Wii U.

Wait: the concept would be good, 3D screen is bad for a quite large minority, a lower price is surely good, and a case in one piece, without hinges, can be better for some games, but the implementation is horrible! But after all, if you take 3D out of 3DS, isn't what you get a sort of DSi?

Not at all! The name (2DS) is horrible, maybe that's what you're referring to. But even without the 3D, the difference between the DSi and the 3DS is as great as the difference between the N64 and the GameCube. It's a completely different console.

Can you use it as the second controller for the wii U

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

What....? The only good thing about that thing is price. I mean, at least with the "2D only" thing, they can improve battery life..... Sigh....

Budget console $$$$

Yeah, I guess so....

I know they want to maximize profit, but I still think giving bigger battery will not increase overall cost of this handheld too much.

To sell the system for $129 is an amazing feat. You should realize that with inflation, the only Nintendo console to be this cheap was the GBA Micro ($99 in 2005 is about $120 now), and that was physically a much smaller system. Gameboy Colour in 1999 would have been $140 in todays price, and I think DS sells for $100 now, but that's an obsolete system.

Hmm.... Well, I think I put it that way only because I just want 3DS system that have the same/better battery life than DS system.... and yes, you're right. With that price, it's hard to make any improvement for the system....

Why is this a real thing?

Does Nintendo know that April is far off? Hopefully this is just an early April Fools day "present."

The Vita does get more than the 3DS. Gravity Rush, Assassins creed, Soul sacrifice, Ragnarok odyssey, Persona 4 golden in dungeons, Shinobido 2, Dynasty warriors next, etc.

I'm sure theres demand because Assassins creed sold above 600k.

600k isn't much for an IP like Assassin's Creed, especially when the game was available in a holiday bundle that was basically "get the hardware $50 cheaper and a free game on top of it".

But yes, the Vita gets more of these games and since the 3DS doesn't offer much of them, the Vita has this market mostly to itself. Doesn't make the Vita sell though, so it's clear that gamers aren't really looking for such games on handhelds.

I think you're making an extrapolation from games to hadware that isnt quite that simple. Many facts contribute to the low sales of the Vita. I'm not sure that one is it, and im not sure how we could go around to verify it aswell.

Also... Assassins sure wasnt free. It has been one of the most expensive Vita titles for a long time. Much like Persona 4 golden.

Thought I'd swore off VGChartz for a week (or however long it takes to get acclimated to college life). Then this happened.

Good release timing. I don't have a clue about the form factor, but it makes me think that my "Nintendo will release a tablet in the near future" premonition isn't completely stupid.
