So first off let me say I really like their games, I picked up Bayonetta and MGR and liked them both and I intend to get Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, but its no secret that their games have not been selling well.  Wonderful 101 is doing really bad, which I don't think it deserves to be, and MGR sold 1.24m units (according to VGC) and that game looked like it had some pretty high production values so I don't think they made much of a profit off that.  The original Bayonetta sold 1.95m units which is really good, but I don't think that reflects how good the sequel will do, since its on a console with a small install base and its fans are on different consoles so tbh I don't see the game selling all that well.  They also recently came out with Anarchy Reigns which only sold 0.27m units.  

Now personally if this trend continues I don't see them sticking around much longer as they are, which is a real shame because they come out with some really unique games.  If I had to guess I'd say Nintendo would buy them out, but that's also questionable considering how Wonderful 101 was received, its not really up to the Nintendo standard.  I think it will depend on how Bayonetta 2 does.  So anyway what do you guys think?  Is Platinum gonna be fine or do you think something extreme will happen?

Well... Wonderful 101 and Beyonatta 2 are Nintendo funded (I believe) so they aren't losing anything on that... I don't think its over and if it is... they will probably get snatched up by Nintendo (maybe) since Nintendo has to be doing something with its checkbook one of these days

I didn't think that meant Nintendo payed for everything. 

They just need to find publishers willing to sign their projects. If they have to do this by working on other people's IPs (like Rising) so be it. If Suda can survive, Platinum can.

I would like it if Nintendo snatched them up and let them try there hand at Star Fox and making nice little niche games for Nintendo. Would be a nice addition to go along with Retro and Monolith.

Wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo buys them out. It's best for everyone.

Bayonetta was a good IP, I thought.

Christ. I can't believe some people actually think they're gonna go under just because of very early W101 numbers.

To date, their games as Platinum haven't done THAT badly. Bayonetta alone, between both versions, sold almost 2 million copies. MadWorld, an uber-violent, totally niche game, managed to sell 700k copies on the Wii. Vanquish sold over half a mil on PS3, and an additional 300K+ on 360. The PS3 version of MGR has sold near 1 million copies.

The only games that really haven't sold well for them thus far, are Infinite Space and Anarchy Reigns.

I think Wonderful 101 will sell better than those games did, and I still think it will reach at least 400k, if not 500k lifetime, which for such an oddball title would be rather solid. As for B2? Well, I just don't see it flopping. It might not be quick to be a million seller, but Nintendo knows they've got to push it and I have a feeling they're going to be counting on it to fill in one of the gaps next year between Yoshi, Mario Kart, Smash, and Zelda. Same with "X".

I just don't think Platinum is in any danger whatsoever. Nintendo has footed the bill for these games to be made, and I think W101 will wind up being at least a bit more successful than most people think, given time. And really, I think even with the nerdrage that occurred when B2 was announce as Wii U only, I think there are going to be people that were big enough fans of the first, that they will eventually get a Wii U to play the sequel.

But regardless, I don't think Platinum is going anywhere, they'll still be making games published by somebody. Now if only they could get the rights to Viewtiful Joe from Capcom....or hell, Okami for that matter.

First the Wonderful 101 numbers are from Japan... Japan console sales always sucks and the Wii U is no different for reasons there are dozens of threads discussing.

Next, they no doubt have gotten decent fund saving Metal Gear Rising from being a trashy game that hurt the Metal Gear brand and they are getting paid for their Nintendo work as well. While bigger sales would no doubt have helped increase their profile, the company isn't likely to just go under due to anything like this.

Worst case scenario some key members might 'fall on their swords' and leave the company to form something else but fans and people in general should probably just chill.
